I really can’t believe that it’s December, and that this is the last Birchbox of the year but alas it is. I have mentioned it before a few times on my blog, but December is definitely my favourite month when it comes to beauty boxes and the boxes tend to be a little bit more special compared to the rest of the year. Birchbox had done a few spoiler posts on their Instagram so I had an idea of what would be in this month’s box but overall I’m really happy with what’s inside.
For December, Birchbox appear to have got rid of their flimsy drawer packaging and instead we have a lidded box which I much prefer as you could use both the lid and base as separate beauty storage items. I think I’m going to store my mascaras in the longer base part of the box, and some lipbalms in the lid so I hope they continue with this box format as it’s so much better than the drawer they’ve used for the last few months.
Every single box for the Birchbox December 2016 box will contain a full size Ciaté Fierce Flicks Eyeliner worth £15 which excites me greatly as the liner is worth more than the box alone. I wear eyeliner every single day, so I’m always open to trying new liners and I’ve never tried any of the Ciaté makeup before apart from their nail polishes.
The Fierce Flicks Eyeliner is a felt tip liner which claims to give intense, super-black colour pay-off, dramatic wings and feline flicks. I really like that the eyeliner comes wrapped in plastic so you know that it’s airtight as felt liners are prone to drying out very easily, and I can’t wait to try this liner on my eyes. I’ve tried the liner on the back of my hand so far, and it is very intense and it feels as if it would be easy to use too.
The next item in my December Birchbox is a 30ml sample size of the Percy & Reed Wonder Balm worth £7.20, which is an award winning leave in balm which promises to add moisture, shine, smoothness and definition to hair, while adding light hold and humidity protection, leaving hair manageable and soft. I really like Percy & Reed products so I’m happy to see this balm within the box especially it sounds like it would work for any hair type and I might keep this mini size in my handbag to try and combat frizz on the go with surprise rain showers or fog which usually makes my hair a massive mess.
We have a skincare item next.. a 7.5ml mini tube of the Dr Brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator worth £4.99, which is described as being an unique exfoliator specifically formulated to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores. It offers physical and chemical exfoliation properties, and smoothes and evens skin texture to refine and diminish the appearance of pores whilst deeply cleansing, strengthening and firming the skin.
This really is a minute sample which is a shame as I’d rather have had a bigger sample of this, and a smaller sample of the Percy & Reed Wonder Balm as I don’t think a 7.5ml sample is big enough to be able to fully try a skincare product. It does sound like a great product though so I’ll definitely give it a try, but I wouldn’t pay £39.95 for the full size without being able to try it for longer to make sure it works for my skin.
Next up we have another makeup product which makes me very happy.. I much prefer makeup products to skincare or haircare in beauty boxes, and is a 3ml sample of the Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara worth £13.80. This mascara sample looks small, but the full size contains 5ml so it’s very nearly a full size product which is fantastic.
The Smokey Eye Mascara is a product I’ve been dying to try and I think it complements the Ciaté Liner within the box really well. Bobbi Brown describe the mascara as a kohl-pigmented mascara which delivers high drama by creating extremely black, stretched-out looking lashes. Plus, the long-wearing formula holds its own against flaking, smudging, sweat and humidity. I can’t wait to try this mascara especially as the wand has natural bristles which I really love for volumised, dramatic lashes.
The last item in the box is a 7.5m sample of the Benefit POREfessional Matte Rescue Invisible Finish Mattifying Gel worth £3.22. I’m not overjoyed about this particular product as I own the full size and I don’t love it, but from what I can gather there’s a selection of Benefit products in this month’s product list so you may get a different Benefit product to me.
It’s a clear gel which claims to mattify but as I have dry skin, I’m not the ideal candidate for such a product so I’ll pass it onto someone who’ll be better suited but to get Benefit, Bobbi Brown AND Ciaté in one box is pretty amazing in my opinion and this is definitely my favourite Birchbox of 2016 by far.
I would love to know if you got anything different to what I got this month? What’s your favourite item in your box?
