Considering NARS are one of my all time favourite brands, I can’t believe I’ve never tried any of their face primers before especially as I love their Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Primer. For Spring 2017, NARS launched a trio of new face primers which are multitasking primers intended for different skin types and different skin concerns. The three primers include the following; the NARS Pore & Shine Control Primer (for oily skin and enlarged pores), the NARS Radiance Primer SPF35 (for lacklustre skin) and the NARS Smooth & Protect Primer SPF50 (a blurring, invisible primer) and I have the latter which I’ve been trialling over the last couple of months.
The NARS Smooth & Protect Primer SPF50 30ml £27 is described as the following;
“Perfecting. Protecting. Oil free. Invisible Defense Technology delivers weightless broad spectrum sunscreen that imperceptibly protects skin against environmental damage without residue or weight. Skin Smoothing Complex powerfully blurs imperfections. Prolongs and enhances the look of makeup.
INSTANT RESULTS: Blurs pores, fine lines, and wrinkles with a powerful resurfacing effect.
LONG-TERM BENEFITS: Broad spectrum SPF 50 provides potent daily skin protection, while antioxidants help to deflect pollution and environmental aggressors.”
The NARS Smooth & Protect Primer is packaged within a slim, white plastic tube and contains 30ml of product. The primer itself has a cream colour which instantly visually reminded me of the Benefit POREfessional Primer however they feel completely different, as I find the POREfessional Primer to feel slimey and drying on my skin so I very rarely use it as I don’t like how it feels when it’s on my skin. The NARS Smooth & Protect Primer however feels miles apart as it doesn’t feel at all slimey, but it still manages to blur the skin whilst leaving the skin feeling like skin so it’d be great for the days where you don’t want to wear makeup as it truly is translucent and it feels more like a skincare product than a makeup primer.
This particular primer really appealed to me as it contains an SPF of 50, and I’m getting more conscious about wearing SPF on a daily basis. I’ve tried quite a few different facial SPF’s and there are some really good ones out there such as La Roche Posay and Vichy, but it feels like another step in an already laborious morning skincare routine so a primer which contained SPF really intrigued me. The primer doesn’t smell like suncream like most facial SPF’s and it doesn’t feel like an SPF which I love as some can feel powdery or greasy on the skin which is less than ideal when you apply makeup over the top.
I really hope the photo above does the primer justice in showing how amazing it is at blurring the skin; it blurred all of the lines and hair follicles on the back of my hand and it has the same effect on the face without the slip and slide of other pore blurring primers. I love how lightweight and comfortable it is on the skin, and I love even more that it’s got an SPF of 50 so I can combine my primer and SPF step in one. It’s one of the best blurring primers I’ve tried, and I really like how well my foundation applies when layered over the top and I can even apply a little over the top of my foundation to my problem areas for extra blurring should I want to due to its translucency. I always try to ensure my reviews are as balanced as possible, but I honestly can’t think of any negative points for this primer and I feel that it deserves a lot more praise and recognition within the beauty world as I’ve hardly heard anything about the three new NARS primers.
Have you tried any of the three new NARS facial primers yet?
