I went through a stage where I’d buy ever single eyeshadow palette which Makeup Revolution released but I don’t buy a lot of their new palettes these days as there are a lot of repeated shades if you own a large selection of their palettes. My favourite Makeup Revolution Palette is the Naked Chocolate Palette, so I’ve always bought the chocolate bar style palettes ever since hoping the formula would be the same but in my opinion, they’ve not released any palettes which are of the high quality of their Naked Chocolate Palette which is such a shame as the formula of that palette genuinely is on par with highend palettes. When Makeup Revolution launched their Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Unicorn Love Eyeshadow Palette £7.99, I wasn’t sold on the colours within the palette but the neutral shades within the palette looked really pretty so I decided to buy it as part of my Makeup Revolution haul.
The Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Unicorn Love Eyeshadow Palette is packaged within a pale pink plastic palette with a fake fur lined lid and a raised pink plastic heart. I have to admit the packaging is pretty garish. I understand the whole unicorn theme but it looks like it’s a toy makeup palette I’d played with when I was five years old, not an £8 eyeshadow palette but I imagine this palette is perhaps targeted towards teens rather than a 30 year old. Ignoring the garish packaging, the palette contains sixteen powder eyeshadows as well as a dual ended sponge tip applicator. I really wish they’d include a dual ended brush like they do with Newtrals Vs Neutrals palette which is actually cheaper than this palette too.
“Inspired by our love for all things Unicorn! This Unicorn love palette contains 16 legendary matte and shimmer shades that are both majestic and vibrant. This magical palette is no myth. Made by real unicorns.”
All of my swatches are done without primer and are from me circling my fingertip in each pan twice and are one swipe swatches, for consistency. If you look at the swatches in the posts I’ve done on the Naked Chocolate Palette, Naked Underneath Palette and Chocolate Vice Palette you’ll see that the shadows within the Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Unicorn Love Eyeshadow Palette are very disappointing. The shades all look so vivid within the pans, but they’re poorly pigmented apart from shades 6, 8, 13 and 14 so four out of sixteen shadows really isn’t great for £7.99. I know it’s a budget palette but their other palettes I linked to above really are amazing, with incredibly good pigmentation and quality but this palette is just so poor in comparison.
You can see they’ve used primer for their swatches of this palette on their website or they’re wet swatches as the shades are considerably darker than the shades within the palette especially if you zoom in on the image. Sometimes shadows can swatch poorly, but apply better but sadly that is not the case for this palette as they don’t apply smoothly to the lids. I really recommend skipping this palette entirely as it’s not worth £8, especially when they do have some really, really great palettes. I hope they go back to their winning formula they used on previous palettes for any future palettes they launch.
What do you think of this palette? Would you be disappointed too?
