I really don’t understand how we’re nearing the end of August already, as this year has absolutely flown by. I know it’s one of the biggest clichés but it really does feel like Christmas was only a couple of months ago but it’s literally under 130 sleeps until Christmas – oh my gosh. So the AW17 makeup collections are beginning to launch, and I’ve had the privilege of testing a selection of products from the GOSH AW17 Makeup Collection so I can give you a rundown on my thoughts as well as some swatches of everything too.
GOSH Lift & Highlight 001 Nude £9.99
“LIFT & HIGHLIGHT is a multi-functional double-ended pencil for precise highlights and low-lights in a creamy, blendable formula with both matt and shimmer effect. It is an instant eye opener to widen the eye area and fake a ‘lift’ without surgery. It brightens the orbital area thanks to light reflective particles, which counteract shadows and give the illusion of wideawake eyes to highlight inner eye corner, cupid´s bow and under eye bone. Make contouring easy with this unique double-ended highlighter and low-lighter in one. The lighter shade is infused with a subtle shimmer that reflects light to bring out the inner glow, and the darker shade imparts a matt finish.”
This is a dual ended wooden pencil with one end featuring a shimmer shade to “highlight” and a matte shade to “lift”, and is similar to the Benefit High Brow Pencils. There are two shades to choose from; Nude 001 and Nude 002, and from what I can tell the Nude 002 is more of a pink duo compared to the beige tones of Nude 001. Each end of the pencil is creamy, although they’re not as soft as Benefit High Brow which I also own but I do like that you get both a shimmer and matte version in one with the GOSH Lift & Luminate for £9.99 whereas the Benefit High Brow is £18.50 for just one shade. It’s a great multiuse product as you can use the ‘lift’ shade as an eyeshadow base too as it helps to even out any uneven skintone making it a good base for eyeshadow as it’s very blendable and products layer well over the top too.
GOSH Prime ‘n Set Banana Primer & Mattifying Setting Powder £9.99
“PRIME’N SET POWDER 002 BANANA is a 2 in 1, primer and setting powder. Creates a flawless and matte finish. Use PRIME´N SET POWDER as a setting powder alone or on cleansed moisturised skin to minimise pores, fine lines, redness and small imperfections for a flawless matt look. The secret to stay shine-free all day is by using a setting powder. TIP: Try a powder puff instead of a face brush to prevent the powder from getting everywhere and to help eliminate any shine or redness.”
I was intrigued to see how this GOSH Banana Powder would compare to the Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder which I own to see if it was a good dupe. In fact the yellow tint of this powder is actually stronger and more yellow than the Ben Nye powder so I think this would be even more effective for medium skintones that want to brighten their under-eye area. I’ve never tried the original GOSH Prime ‘n Set Primer & Mattifying Setting Powder although I’ve read some amazing reviews about how well it mattifies the skin. I have dry skin so I don’t require my powders to be particularly mattifying but due to how extremely mattifying this powder is, I have to use a very light hand with a large fluffy brush or it can make my skin look a little too dry. If you have oily skin, I think you’d love how mattifying this powder is as it removes ALL shine in seconds. I do think it’s a touch too yellow for my very pale skin, but it’s amazing to see a very yellow banana powder within the drugstore and the packaging is a lot more convenient than that of the Ben Nye powder.
GOSH Rose Gold Lumi Drops £7.99
“LUMIDROPS is a lightweight liquid highlighter that accentuates the best features. LUMIDROPS creates that perfect healthy look by adding light and luminosity to the skin. LUMIDROPS will brighten up any look and highlight the most beautiful features. It is ideal for wearing on both bare skin and on top of foundation. The luminiser will refresh and enhance the complexion with a shimmery glow.”
I already own the GOSH Lumi Drops in the shade 004 Peach so I already know I love the Lumi Drops formula. I’m really glad GOSH have extended the shade range even further as I’ve read nothing but ‘glowing’ reviews. Rose Gold is peachy pink shade with golden shimmer which really reminds me of the NARS Orgasm Blush, and I suspect it may be a dupe of the new NARS Orgasm Liquid Blush as they both have the same golden shift. I don’t use this particular shade as an highlighter as it’s much too deep to be worn on the cheekbones but it works nicely as a shimmery blush, or a blush topper with a little going a very long way.
GOSH ‘Chameleon’ Primer Plus + Skin Adaptor £14.99
“This unique multi-functional colour release primer enhances any skin tone with a healthy, even-toned glow. With a complex of anti-pollution ingredients, it fights free radical damage that can lead to visible aging. Skin looks smoother, and more even-toned with a radiant finish. The PRIMER PLUS+ SKIN ADAPTOR ANTI-POLLUTION adds moisture, energy, and protects the skin all day.”
Unfortunately this is the one product I wasn’t able to make work, and that’s only because the shade is considerably too dark for my pale skintone. It claims to adapt to the skintone but it doesn’t adapt to mine sadly. It dispenses as an off white coloured cream which darkens as you begin to blend it into the skin as shown above. It does sound like an impressive product according to the claims but I’ve just not been able to test it as I can’t possibly wear something so orange but I do love the GOSH Illuminating Primer if you have a skintone as pale as mine, and you want a primer which isn’t going to leave you looking strange.
GOSH Strobe ‘n Glow Highlighter Kit 001 £12.99
“There is nothing we love more than a beauty product, which can pull double duty. Highlighter is one of those wonderful gems, which is there for us when we need to enhance the best features. Working to give glow and make the look more awake, highlighter is a wonderful way to infuse a little bit of life. To get the most out of the highlighter, start using it to the best of its abilities with the “How to use” techniques. STROBE`N GLOW KIT is an exclusive, must-have quattro. Includes a white/golden highlighter and tree golden bronzer to strobe and define.”
I’m definitely finishing with my standout products from the collection with the Highlighter Kit and the Blusher Kit which are the products I’d recommend the most from the GOSH AW17 Makeup Collection as they’re truly beautiful. The GOSH Strobe ‘n Glow Highlighter Kit contains four large powder highlighters which I’ve swatched above. The first shade is the most incredible white highlighter with a lilac duochrome (not holographic) which is stunning and so unique to anything within my large highlighter collection. The second shade is a light champagne shade, the third is a bronze whereas the fourth is a light gold. They are so pretty and sit nicely on the skin without emphasising pores or texture of the skin.
GOSH Strobe ‘n Glow Blush Kit 002 £12.99
“There is nothing we love more than a beauty product, which can pull double duty. Highlighter is one of those wonderful gems, which is there for us when we need to enhance the best features. Working to give glow and make the look more awake, highlighter is a wonderful way to infuse a little bit of life. To get the most out of the highlighter, start using it to the best of its abilities with the “How to use” techniques. STROBE`N GLOW KIT is an exclusive, must-have quattro. “
The blush kit has the same set up as the highlighter kit with four large powder blushes in matte and shimmer finishes. The first two shades in the kit are also duochrome (again not holographic) which is so unique for the drugstore, with the first shade being a very pale peach with a golden duochrome which I like to use as an eyeshadow topper. The second shade is a gorgeous peachy coral with a pinky lilac shift which is amazing and my photo doesn’t do it justice but I’ve never seen a blush like it before. The third shade is a matte berry shade which reminds me of NARS Sin but a little more rosy, and the fourth shade is a shimmery pinky coral shade. The finishes of the first two blushes are so unique, and so beautiful that I think everyone needs it within their collection and I think £12.99 for four blushes is fantastic as it works out as £3.24 each which is brilliant for a 5 gram blush/ highlighter.
