MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter Review / Swatches

The majority of MUA’s products have obviously been designed around existing products on the market, you only have to look at their new nail polish design (hello Essie) and their Undress Me Too Palette (hello Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette). Their designs of the MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter are similar, but the most important question is whether the product’s formula is similar in quality too.

I have already reviewed one of the new nail polishes; Koala Bear, and I was seriously blown away by the quality, so immoral it may be, I’m happy to overlook the copied design considering MUA’s polishes are no less than £7 cheaper than Essie.

The release of their MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter created a lot of buzz around how similar the design was to that of some of the MAC Mineral Skin Finishes, with the design within the pan. The MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter is a remarkably cheap £3, and is housed within a white and clear compact holding 7.5g of product.
The MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter is part of four products within the ‘undress your skin’ range, which includes a skin primer £5, an under eye concealer £3, an illuminating foundation £5 and this Shimmer Highlighter £3. When touching the powder I was surprised by just how rough it felt, seeing as all the other highlighter and powder products I’d owned, having a silky and soft texture. The highlighter swatched well onto the back of my hand, without being at all gritty or uneven.

The shade is almost a pearlised pinky silver colour, which can be built up easily for a more dramatic effect. I’ve found that when used with a wet eyeshadow brush, it makes a really pretty eyeshadow shade too. There is no doubt that this highlighter is anywhere near as finely milled as a MAC MSF but that’s to be expected.
When on the cheeks, the powder leaves quite a subtle effect which does look quite natural, although the more it is built up.. I feel it loses somewhat, its natural appearance. The shimmer is picked up beautifully in photo’s so I would recommend this for nights out as well as being worn during the day.

I am in no way disappointed with this product, whatsoever.. it’s just sometimes, so much hype and buzz can place a product on a pedestal so high, that you end up expecting the world – and then being disappointed. It’s incredibly cheap, the packaging is durable and would withstand the odd clattering around in a makeup bag, it’s very pretty and would suit pretty much any skintone.
Even though it is quite shimmery, bordering on metallic.. it doesn’t leave you looking like a disco ball. I genuinely really like it.. however, I’m just not sure I’d choose this over my many MAC MSF’s? Although, I would love it if they’d consider releasing maybe some more shades of the ‘Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter’?!
