MAC At Dusk Extra Dimension Blush Review / Swatches

Back in May MAC released their Extra Dimension Collection internationally, which included blushers, eyeshadows and skinfinishes. When it launched I honestly wanted everything, the beautiful patterned pans were just too aesthetically appealing. Amazingly I only bought one item; MAC At Dusk, although I did regret this decision within a couple of days. I decided I really wanted one of their Extra Dimension Skinfinishes too but I was too late, alas they were sold out.

The MAC UK website are still selling the Extra Dimension Blush in the shade ‘Fiery Impact’ which is described as being a burnt red bronze. I chose the much more understated shade At Dusk, which MAC describe as being a ‘mid-tone rose’, as I’d read numerous reviews describing it as the perfect blush for pale skintones.

The Extra Dimension products are said to have a liquid-powder formula that is silky, cool, creamy and visually arresting which I found quite intriguing. MAC released an Extra Dimension collection last year too, which included just Skinfinishes and Eyeshadows.

However last years collection was described as being too shimmery and frosty, but 2013’s collection had a more satin finish. I didn’t purchase anything from the 2013 collection as the shades just didn’t interest me. The pans of the Extra Dimension collection have such a beautiful design, with them divided into two halves; one flat half with MAC engraved into the powder, the other half is raised in a wave like design. It looks so undeniably pretty.

MAC At Dusk definitely is a shade for fair skintones, it is very subtle indeed with a beautiful sheen. I like to apply At Dusk with my Real Techniques Blush Brush. Due to the colour being quite subtle, bordering on sheer.. it would require some building up should you prefer a bolder blush, but personally I do prefer a more barely there finish.

The Satin finish leaves such a pretty highlighted effect to the cheeks, as well as colour.. I don’t feel the need to use an highlighter when I wear this blush thanks to the beautiful but delicate sheen. The rosy colour almost gives my skin a bronzed appearance too, and gives my cheeks the highly coveted ‘healthy glow’.

There is no shimmer or glitter within the MAC At Dusk blush, so it looks quite natural which I love. I thought that At Dusk wouldn’t be very long lasting due to the sheer finish but I was so wrong. It has amazing lasting power up to 8 hours on me, which is possibly the most long wearing blush I own! If I set it with a makeup fixing spray it lasts until I remove my makeup which is seriously impressive.

I absolutely adore this blush, so much in fact I’m rationing how much I use it as I couldn’t bare to be without it. It’s so easy to wear, and can be teamed with any eye or lip colours which is always a massive bonus. I really hope MAC release another Extra Dimension collection in the future, as I’ll be sure to snap up some more pieces as I really love the formula of this blush.
