Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder Review / Swatches

Guerlain is an high-end beauty brand I’ve never tried anything from, but have lusted over their beautiful products for such a long time. The chic French brand dates back to an astonishing 185 years which has been driven by the ‘insatiable quest to be beautiful’.. with their desire to package every perfume or makeup product as beautifully as possible to increase the pleasure of using them. With their aim for each bottle, case, compact and lipstick tube must combine functionality, beauty and distinction which they do with every single product. My first Guerlain experience is the Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder 6.5g £28* that is described as being a translucent, violet scented powder which provides a mattifying veil, which ideally blurs imperfections and makes skin luminous. The description is so romantic, which is the same for all of Guerlain’s descriptions.

My favourite translucent powder is the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot which is a functional product, however some days I prefer to use a nicer more decadent powder for special occasions or just days I want to make an extra effort.

The Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder most certainly fulfils that wish, and more. Available in three shades; Clair (Light), Medium and Dore (Dark) – I opted for Clair in the hope that as it’s a translucent powder, it should be a good match for my pale skin.

Packaged within its black box, the powder compact is housed within a black, buttery, soft velvet pouch which always signifies that a product is luxurious in my opinion as it feels like such a treat each time you use it. The compact itself is so elegant, sleek and quintessentially Guerlain.

The compact is a very shiny plastic, gold chrome with Guerlain’s insignia engraved on the lid along with the brand name engraved next to the opening clasp. The compact is undoubtedly beautiful, I absolutely adore it.. especially considering how chunky and cumbersome by Soap & Glory powder is. I just love taking this out of its pouch to use it, as it feels so glamorous compared to the rest of the powders I own.

The compact opens with a gentle push of the black, plastic clasp. Once the compact has fully opened, the beautiful scent of violets really hits me, it’s very similar to Parma Violets. I’ve never had a scented powder before, but know that in the 1920’s – 1930’s scented face powders were very popular, so it’s nice to own something which is vintage inspired.

Nestled on top of the powder is a gorgeous circular velvet cushion which is to be used as a powder puff. It is so very soft and silky, and even has a Guerlain branded ribbon on the back to loop over your fingers for application – such a pretty touch and within the lid is a mirror which is always useful.

When I opened the compact for the first time I had somewhat of a gasp moment as the presentation of the compact and pan inside is so wonderful. With Guerlain again engraved on the outer rim of the compact holding the powder and the powder having an amazing lace pattern with Swiss dots as well as another Guerlain logo engraved into the middle of the powder. The attention to detail is incredible.

The first time I touched the pattern of the Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder with my fingertips, I was seriously in awe of its incredibly beautiful consistency. On contact with the skin the powder almost melts like butter.. I’ve never come across a face powder with such an amazingly creamy texture.

Due to my dry skin patches I assumed by using the velvet puff to apply the powder would only make them stand out even more like traffic beacons on my cheeks.. But it doesn’t, it presses the finely milled powder over them to contain them, which in turn makes them a lot less noticeable – I couldn’t believe it as I usually have to avoid applying powder anywhere near them.

I love to use my Real Techniques Duo Fiber Contour Brush to apply this powder, delicately dusting along my t-zone to keep any unwanted shine at bay and using any remaining powder on my brush on my cheeks. My skin is not greasy in the slightest, so I don’t use this powder to ‘set’ my foundation in place and even if I did I wouldn’t use a powder like this for that task.

I’d prefer to use a (cheaper) powder such as the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot to apply all over my face as a setting powder, then apply this Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder as a veil over the top of my pores and imperfections as it’s a miracle worker at blurring all of my imperfections. The  Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder is much better suited as a finishing powder.. Especially as the delicate violet scent lingers on the skin which I didn’t think I’d like, but I love.

Whenever I apply this beautifully decadent powder, my overall complexion looks so much clearer and perfected with my pores and dry patches minimised. The duo fiber brush picks up such a small amount of product, and seeing as I only apply it sparingly I envisage this stunning compact lasting me a long time.

I’d definitely repurchase this beautiful Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Compact Powder as it’s such a wonderful product. I love how beautiful the packaging and attention to detail is, I can’t help but feel special whenever I use it. The results speak for themselves too, I’m totally smitten. I’m so very impressed by my first Guerlain product, I’m already deciding which Guerlain product to indulge in next….
