W7 Prime Magic Camera Ready Face Primer Review / Swatches

Like many beauty obsessives, I love discovering new dupes or reading about them on other blogs. One product I’ve always wanted to try is the Smashbox Photo Ready Primer as I’ve read so many rave reviews, however I’ve never purchased it as I love my Benefit POREfessional (and more recently the No7 Brilliantly Bare Beauty Enhancer). The Smashbox Photo Ready Primer is £30 whereas the W7 Prime Magic Camera Ready Face Primer is only £3.50 so curiosity got the better of me, and the W7 dupe was mine.

The packaging and name of the W7 is very obviously ‘inspired’ by the Smashbox Photo Ready Primer.. although the majority of W7’s products are exactly the same, like their boxed powders for example. I couldn’t wait to see how the W7 Prime Magic Camera Ready Face Primer performed.

The W7 Camera Ready Face Primer is silicone based, and feels very slimy.. almost unpleasantly so, and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling smooth and silky like other silicone based primers I’ve tried – like Benefit POREfessional. Generally speaking, I like silicone based primers as they have a tendency to almost coat my dry patches in a way that they look a lot less noticeable but sometimes they can make my skin feel even more dry.

However the Camera Ready Face Primer does have the tendency to emphasise my dry patches, and feels a little drying but it does a good job at blurring my skin so I like to use it with a more hydrating primer on my dry patches and keep the W7 Prime Magic Camera Ready Face Primer for my pore problem areas such as my cheeks, nose and forehead. I imagine this primer would be ideal for those with oilier skin types as it has a subtle mattifying effect, and for £3.50 it’s a great bargain buy. The packaging is quite basic, but for the price it really isn’t too bad and I don’t think it looks like it’s an under £4 primer.

Have you ever tried the Prime Magic Camera Ready Face Primer? Do you like a pore blurring primer? Let me know in the comments below…
