Budget beauty brand Essence launched within the UK back in September at six selected Wilkinson’s stores. Due to popular demand more stores now feature Essence products as well as there now being two pop-up stores in Manchester’s Arndale Centre and London’s Westfield Centre. I did a post back in September when Essence originally landed on UK soil but I wanted to give you a sneak peak at some of the bargainous products on offer that I was very kindly sent, although I have no idea of individual prices I’m afraid.
Essence is a brand I’ve seen featured in so many blog posts and one I’ve always wanted to try so I’m really excited about their UK launch and hope that it might encourage over international brands to do the same.
I received two of the Essence Colour & Go Nail Polishes in the shades; 103 Space Queen and 105 Party Princess. I cannot describe how glittery these polishes are.. they’re so pretty. The bottles remind me of a shorter version of the Bourjois So Laque Glossy polishes, and they have the same wide brush for quick and easy application.
Space Queen is a very pale nude loaded with glitter and Party Princess is a magenta loaded with glitter. There are an impressive nearly 50 shades within the Colour & Go range so there’s bound to be a few shades you’ll love.
I also received one of the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in 10 Cotton Candy which is a super bright pink, with a finish askin to a MAC Cremesheen lipstick. It applies slightly sheerly, but can be made fully opaque with a couple of swipes. It feels so comfortable and lovely on the lips but I can’t say that I find it particularly long lasting like its name suggests?
I find that by the two hour mark it’s pretty much disappeared. I like that the lipstick bullet has the Essence ‘E’ embossed into it.. it’s a nice touch on such an affordable lipstick.
I then got the Essence Multi Action Mascara and the Essence Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. The mascara has a long, narrow brush and claims to give volume and length. I do find that the formula is slightly too dry for my liking for a new mascara, and it does take 2-3 coats for my lashes to be as black as I’d like them which then means my lashes begin to clump.
Unfortunately this mascara isn’t something I’d recommend as it smudges terribly and gives me awful panda eyes but I know I’ve tried two other Essence mascaras and loved them so it’s all down to personal preference. The eyeliner is my favourite product from the selection of products.. with a very flexible, tapered, foam nib which allows you to create a thin or thick liner.
The formula isn’t as opaque as I’d like, but it’s just so easy to use so I don’t mind retracing my line for perfect opacity. It dries to a matte finish and really does live up to its long lasting claim.. I’d really recommend trying this liner.
Last up I got three face products; the Essence Silky Touch Blush in Adorable, Essence Mattifying Compact Powder in Beige and Essence Pure Skin Anti-Spot Moisturising Makeup in Beige. Unfortunately the powder and foundation are much too dark for my insipid complexion so I’ll pass them onto someone with a warmer skintone.
I already have one of the Essence Silky Touch Blushes
and they’re really lovely.. with a silky and almost creamy consistency. Adorable is a pretty pale pink with a subtle shimmer, and I love it.
Have you ever tried Essence? Which products would you recommend?
