e.l.f. High Definition Powder Review / Swatches

20th August 2014

The e.l.f. High Definition Powder £6.95 is a product I’ve lusted after for such a long time, and was always out of stock whenever I’ve placed an order. Whenever e.l.f. have generous discount code events, the High Definition Powder is always the first product to sell out. I was extremely pleased to finally get my hands on this highly coveted powder as I’ve seen endless rave reviews, and YouTube videos. I really wanted the High Definition Under-Eye Setting Powder after seeing Shaaanxo use it so many times, but the UK e.l.f. website no longer stocks it which is pretty gutting. You can buy it on eBay for £14/$23 which is insane considering it’s only $3 on the US e.l.f. website.

The e.l.f. High Definition Powder claims to create a soft focus effect to the skin and masks fine lines and imperfections for a radiant complexion. The High Definition Powder contains 8g of product within a very chunky, black plastic container. I really don’t like how chunky the container is.. it’s so much bigger than it needs to be and annoyingly takes up so much room within my storage.

Once you unscrew the lid, there is a velvety soft powder puff laying on top of the powder sifter. After I peeled the sticker off the sifter, I tipped the container slightly to sift some powder into the lid and was shocked at how much powder came out… the holes in the sifter are really quite large and sift much too powder.

The High Definition Powder is very finely milled and so silky.. I’d even say it’s the most finely milled loose powder I’ve tried so far. The shade I bought was ‘translucent’ and it lives upto it’s name as it doesn’t leave any white cast on my skin, and blends in amazingly well when applied with a brush or powder puff, although I prefer to apply the powder with a duo-fiber brush. I also like to use a fan brush to apply the powder over my under-eye concealer to help set it in place. It’s so easy to apply, and doesn’t look cakey or visible on the skin due to being so fine.

I absolutely adore this powder. The last picture above shows the lines on the back of my hand before and after applying the powder and you can clearly see that in the second picture, the lines are blurred and almost invisible and it does the same to my pores on my face.

I love applying this powder to my face on my no makeup days too, as it help perfect the surface of my skin. It makes my skin look so smooth and even, with my pores looking so much less noticeable on my cheeks. This powder really does work wonders on making my skin and makeup look good, but I’m not sure it would be effective at oil control; something I don’t have to worry about with my dry skin.. although in its defence, it doesn’t make any claims on being able to keep oil at bay.

If you have normal to dry skin, I would really, really recommend this powder. At just £6.95 it really is a gem of a product and has knocked my holy grail Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Powder off of my favourite powder top spot.

What is your favourite powder? Have you tried the e.l.f. High Definition Powder?
