Barry M Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Review / Swatches

Recently I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect gel eyeliner as I just haven’t found one that I truly like. I’m looking for a gel liner that is a really intensely pigmented black with a formula that stays in place without crumbling or fading throughout the day. The gel eyeliner I’ve been testing out for the last couple of weeks is the Barry M Waterproof Gel Eyeliner £5.49* in the shade black, although there are an impressive six shades in the range in total.

The liner is packaged within a small circular plastic pot, that has an elongated cap which contains a brush. The handle opens in the middle to reveal the brush which you then clip into cap to create a longer handled eyeliner brush.

The brush itself isn’t brilliant, but it is functional if it’s all you have to hand. The swatches shown in the last photo are done with the brush, and as you can see it does create quite a streaky finish.. so I prefer to use the Real Techniques Silicone Eyeliner Brush as it offers a lot more precision with a better even finish. The gel liner has a really creamy consistency which makes it easy to apply without dragging or pulling the eyelid. I am really impressed with how good the colour payoff is.. it’s a really intense black shade which dries down to a matte finish.

Once applied to the lid, this liner stays in place all day long without crumbling and it doesn’t fade like a lot of liners tend to do, and it doesn’t smudge or transfer at all either. If I’m completely honest, I really didn’t expect very much from this gel liner as I’ve been disappointed by a fair few eyeliner pots like this from the likes of Rimmel, Revlon and L’Oreal.. however the Barry M Waterproof Gel Eyeliner is definitely the best I’ve tried and it’s the cheapest but I would recommend ditching the brush inside the lid, and using your own.

What’s your favourite gel eyeliner?
