Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm Review / Swatches

18th October 2014

Clinique’s newest makeup launch is an exciting one for blush fiends, as they’re created a range of four Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balms to join their existing family of Chubby Sticks for lips and eyes; and now Cheeks. The Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm is described as being creamy, mistake-proof cheek colour which creates a healthy glow in an instant with an oil-free formula and priced at £19 each. Clinique were the original creators off the chubby lip crayons, and every brand has followed suit to create an equivalent. I really love that Clinique are expanding their Chubby Stick line, and I think the Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm is a fantastic addition that will appeal to everyone.

Just like the Chubby Sticks for lips/eyes, the Chubby Stick Colour Balms are packaged within a chubby, plastic stick format that can be wound up and down by turning the metal base. Each of the Chubby Sticks’ barrels are coloured to reflect the shade inside which I love, especially if you own multiple shades. From the four shades available, I have the shade Roly Poly Rosy* which has a shimmery dark pink coloured barrel.

The Cheek Colour Balm has a domed tip, which you can choose to apply directly to the apples of your cheek and then blend with your fingertips, or alternatively you could use a brush like the Real Techniques Stippling Brush to swirl on the end and then apply and blend on the cheeks. The Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm’s are essentially a cream blush in stick form and the inclusion of the word ‘balm’ in the title is slightly confusing, as the formula isn’t remotely balm-like.

Swatches of Roly Poly Rosy

Roly Poly Rosy is a gorgeous, rosy pink shade which is pretty pigmented when first swiped upon the skin, but it does blend out effortlessly due to its lovely, creamy consistency. You can wear this shade as intense or sheer as you like which I really love as I prefer my blush to be quite subtle and natural looking, so I blend it into the skin to my desired colour intensity.

The cream formulation is perfect for those with dry skin like mine, as it doesn’t cling to any dry patches and it’s actually quite moisturising on the skin too which is pretty rare for a cream blush. If you have oily skin then i’d really recommend trying these out as they’re oil-free, and they dry to a matte finish so you don’t have to worry about being left with shiny cheeks.

Even though this Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm has the consistency and ease of application of a cream blush, it has the staying power of a powder blush in that it stays in place for a good six hours without fading. I love how quick and easy it is to apply as it takes a matter of seconds, and you can even layer a powder blush over the top should you wish to similar to the Benefit Majorette blush, to create different effects.

The Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm is a dream to apply, and every girl should own at least one shade in their makeup bag for quick, on the go brushless beautiful blush application.
