Lancôme Lip Lover Gift Set Review / Swatches

I’m a sucker for a gift set, and when I saw that Lancôme had created a gift set with three miniature sizes of their Lip Lover Lip Perfectors, I knew I had to snap one up as I’ve been wanting to try the Lip Lover formula for some time now after reading a few rave reviews.

The Lancôme Lip Lover Gift Set is £22, and it contains three 3ml Lip Lovers in the shades; 355 Framboise Etoile, 337 Lip Lover and 316 Rose Attrape-Coeur. The full size Lancôme Lip Lover are 4.5ml and cost £18 each so this set has a value of £36 which is pretty good, especially as you get to try three shades.

The three Lip Lovers in the set are packaged in silver metal tubes with a clear window on the front to show the colour of the product inside, and each have a narrow doe-foot applicator which makes application easy and precise as the tip is almost pointed. The scent of these glosses is quite strange as they smell exactly like Lancôme’s skincare, so it’s odd that they’d choose to use the same scent for their skincare and glosses.
The Lancôme Lip Lovers are supposedly a 3-in-1 product offering the shine of a lip gloss, the colour intensity of a lipstick and the cushiony feel and comfort of a lip balm. The formula is a little more complex compared to standard glosses, as it has a dual-phase formulation which breaks into two layers upon application; one upper gloss layer with shine, transparency and a plumping effect whilst the second layer of oil and pigment that creates a balmy base so the colour pigments adhere to the lips.

Lancôme Lip Lover Gift Set Review / Swatches

Swatches of Framboise Etoile, Lip Lover, Rose Attrape-Coeur
355 Framboise Etoile; This shade is a dark, berry pink without any shimmer that as strange as it sounds reminds me of jam in terms of colour and appearance on the lips. I didn’t find this colour as comfortable, and smooth as the other two shades and is my least favourite. Once the glossy layer has worn away, it leaves my lips with a berry stain for a good few hours.
337 Lip Lover; This is the shade named after the collection, and is described by Lancome as a bright berry pink and it contains very fine pink shimmer which applies evenly. I really like this shade as it’s quite bright but not overpoweringly so and it leaves a subtle tint to the lips.
316 Rose Attrape-Coeur; This is the palest shade from the trio, as it doesn’t impart very much colour as it’s very close to my natural lip colour but it’s creamier than the other two shades. This shade is particularly shimmery and I’ve found that if I apply a generous amount to my lips, the shimmer gathers in the lines. The colour is really pretty, it’s a subtle coral pink that I can wear with any makeup look but this shade doesn’t leave any lasting colour to the lips.
After trying all three shades I can’t honestly say that I’m blown away by the Lip Lover formula. I like the shades of 337 and 316, and they all apply nice and evenly but for me there’s just nothing special or unique about them.. to me they look and feel like any other lipgloss, and I’m not sure they’re worth £18 each if I’m completely honest. I would personally recommend NYX Mega Shine Lipglosses which are £6 over these, as they’re actually much nicer in my opinion than the Lancôme Lip Lover glosses.
