BaByliss Boutique Salon Soft Waves Hair Wand Review

My favourite way to wear my hair is with curls or waves as I find it to be so much more flattering than when I wear my hair straight. I own a few hair wands which have a small sized barrel which are great for creating tighter curls, but I’ve been on the hunt for a wand with a thicker barrel which would create more looser, voluminous curls and I’m pleased to report I’ve found the perfect tool – the BaByliss Boutique Salon Soft Waves Hair Wand.

The BaByliss Boutique Salon Soft Waves Hair Wand £40* has a 34mm tourmaline-coated barrel, which is longer than the average curling wand making it ideal for those with longer hair like myself.

With normal hair wands, I have to overlap my hair on the wand which isn’t ideal but with this wand I’m able to place the whole length of my hair flat against the barrel which creates a more longlasting style.

Inside the box, alongside the Soft Waves Wand there is a heatproof glove as well as an heatproof mat which has an elasticated holder stitched into it so it doubles up as a carry case too which is great. The wand is super sleek, with a glossy black handle and a shiny pale rose gold coloured barrel complete with a black plastic tip. The Soft Waves Wand is from the BaByliss Boutique Collection which is designed to give salon-like results in the comfort of your own home, and the whole collection is seriously stunning.

The BaByliss Boutique Salon Soft Waves Hair Wand heats upto 210 degrees, with five digital heat settings making it ideal for all hair types and the heat can be easily increased and decreased by pressing the ‘-/+’ button. From pressing the power button, the wand is ready to be used in just 30 seconds thanks to Advanced Ceramics technology to maintain constant high heat and fast heat recovery.

The black plastic tip on the end of the wand stays cool so you can rest your fingers on the end without worrying about burning yourself which is a great feature, and there’s a very handy plastic stand on the back of the wand to position your wand safely whilst it’s cooling down.

If you watch Tanya Burr’s videos, you’ve probably seen her rave about the BaByliss Boutique Salon Soft Waves Hair Wand on several occasions so I was really happy to be able to try it out for myself. The first time I tried it, I loved the soft loose waves it created but the waves dropped out within two hours which was really disappointing but I’ve found ways to help lock the waves in place. When my hair is wet, I add a golf ball sized amount of a voluminous hair mousse and then spritz each piece of hair with TIGI Masterpiece Hairspray once I’ve curled it with the wand.

The BaByliss Boutique Salon Soft Waves Hair Wand creates really lovely, loose waves with lots of body due to the thickness of the barrel as I like to start at around an inch from the roots and curl the hair under the barrel and then alternate going over the barrel to mix it up a little. I really like how natural the waves are, and it’s so quick and easy to use as you can use thicker strands of hair for even looser waves making it ideal for everyday use when you haven’t got lots of time for styling your hair.
