When I saw the Smashbox Shape Matters Palette feature on Temptalia, I wasn’t particularly interested in it until I spotted that it was Boots’ Star Gift of the week a few weeks back and instead of £60, it was on offer for £30 for one week so I decided I’d snap it up as it was amazing value for £30 and I haven’t really tried very much from Smashbox as a brand. Every week from now until Christmas, Boots make one product their ‘Star Gift’ of the week where they lower the price usually instore and on the website and they change every Friday.
I bought the Smashbox Shape Matters Palette the Friday it went on offer on their website, but they had sold out in just a couple of days which isn’t surprising since it was such an amazing offer.
The Smashbox Shape Matters Palette contains products for the eyebrows, cheeks and eyes all inside one handy palette with a mirror within the lid. The palette contains nine award winning Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadows, three contour powders which suit most skintones, one highlighter, two best-selling Brow Tech Powders, 1 Brow Tech Wax and a double ended brush as well as get the look cards to help you use the products.
What I particularly liked about the Smashbox Shape Matters Palette is that it wasn’t a palette of new shades.. it was instead a palette containing their existing bestselling shades so I knew they’d be good quality and a great starting place for someone like me that hasn’t tried very many Smashbox products.
Brushes inside palettes are normally below par, but the double ended brush inside this palette is really great quality with one side being an angled brow brush for the brow powders and wax and the other side is a fluffy blending brush for the eyeshadows. After trying this brush, I really would love to try some more Smashbox brushes as this one is such a good brush and it applies and blends shadow so well.
The Brow Tech Brow Wax is a great clear wax which sets the powder perfectly without leaving my brows feeling crispy, and keeps my brow hairs in place all day long. Considering this palette contains the same shades without any variation for hair/skin tones, I am really impressed with the two brow shades as I can use them both.
I love that neither shade is warm toned, and they both look so natural when applied with the brush included within the palette. I like to use the paler shade for everyday makeup, and then the darker shade when I want a more intense brow but they’re both pigmented and longlasting too.
The two contour powders and two highlighters have the most amazing, smooth and buttery formula. The first shade is a really great contour shade as it’s cool toned and it can be used with a light hand or it can be built up for a more intense contour. The second shade works well as a bronzer but it’s a little too orange for my personal preference so I use it as an eyeshadow.
The two highlighters include a subtle cream shade, and a more intense champagne shimmer shade; both of which are very pretty. Out of the products inside the palette, it was the contour and highlight shades which I thought I’d get the least use out of but I’ve been so impressed with them and really can understand the hype for the Smashbox Contour Kit now.
The rave review continues with the eyeshadows.. all nine shades are pigmented, soft and blendable and I love the variation in finished with matte, shimmer and satin shades. There isn’t one shade i wouldn’t use, and they’re all as high quality as eachother.
I like that the three bottom matte shades can also be used as liners, and the pigmentation can be intensified by using a damp brush. My favourite shades would have to be the two shimmer shades in the middle row as they’re just beautiful but I really do love all of the shades.
I am so happy that I bought the Smashbox Shape Matters Palette, and I would pay the full £60 price if I had to purchase it again as it’s such a fantastic palette. I think this would be the most perfect travel palette as it contains everything you need for your eye makeup, and contour/highlight all in one with an handy mirror within the lid.
The palette is quite large but it’s sturdy enough to protect all of the powders inside and the shadows don’t need a primer so all you’d need is a mascara. After being so impressed with this palette, I am now dying to try more from Smashbox so I’d love some recommendations if you have any…
