Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer is their bestselling mascara, and it’s a mascara that I really enjoy using. Since the success of the They’re Real! Mascara, Benefit have released even more products within the They’re Real! range which includes their eyeliner, makeup remover and the newest addition; the Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Lash Primer. The Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Lash Primer is £19.50 and comes in just one shade which is a light brown colour.
I have always liked the results with my lashes when I use a mascara primer so I was looking forward to trying this tinted primer as I’ve only ever tried white lash primers before and I was interested to see what the difference the tint makes.
Benefit claim that their Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Lash Primer can be used in two ways; it can be worn as a lash primer to ‘dramatically boost length and separation’ or it can be used alone as a natural tint to define the lashes for a feathery natural look.
If you’ve ever tried the They’re Real! Mascara, you’ll be well aware how much of a nightmare it is to remove from the lashes so I was worried the primer would be the same especially if I was going use both the primer and mascara at the same time but luckily the primer is considerably easier to remove even though it has a waterproof formula.
The formula of the Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer is quite thin, and you can’t build it up like you can with mascara and the result is a very light layer of the primer which doesn’t really do anything for my lashes, so I wouldn’t wear the primer as a tint as I’d much rather apply some mascara to make my lashes visible at least. The brush on the primer is identical to the mascara with plastic ‘spikes’ all over, with them also being around the top of the wand too which are handy for catching every lash.
To use it as a primer I simply applied the Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Lash Primer to my bare lashes and let it dry before proceeding with my mascara of choice and in all honesty, I was a little disappointed. I didn’t experience any improvement to my lashes in terms of volume or length.. my lashes looked the same as they would without the primer.
Not to be defeated, I have since tried applying the primer and then applying my mascara whilst my primer is still wet but yet again, there’s absolutely no difference to my lashes. My lashes work well with the stickier, white primers such as the Dior Lash Primer and the Urban Decay Lash Primer but the Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer just didn’t work for me and it’s not an item I would repurchase as it feels like a pointless additional step in my beauty routine as it makes no difference whatsoever.
Have you tried this Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Lash Primer mascara? I’d love to know your thoughts and if you’ve had better luck with your results?
