The Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base is one of Essence’s most raved about products, and it’s seemingly always out of stock so I was delighted when I was finally able to get hold of it on the Wilko website and it’s only £2.50. The texture of this eyeshadow primer is unlike any other primer I’ve tried, as most eyeshadow primers have a silicone-like consistency which feels a little slimey but this primer feels and looks more of a concealer.
I would describe this primer as being similar to Benefit‘s Stay Don’t Stray in that it cancels out any discolouration on the eyelids and the colour is actually very similar to Stay Don’t Stray too except the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base is £2.50 and Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray is £20.50.
There is only one shade of the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base available, and it’s actually pretty dark which you can see from the swatches above.
The shade is definitely too dark for me to wear on its own without any eyeshadow over the top, and it’s slightly too dark to wear pale eyeshadows so I prefer to keep it for when I use darker eyeshadows so the darker tone doesn’t matter but I would love for Essence to introduce some other shades.
Once I’ve blended the primer onto my eyelids it really does help to intensify my eyeshadows as well as helping to improve the longevity of them too. I rarely experience any creasing with my eyeshadow as I have dry eyelids but this primer does prevent my shadow from creasing nonetheless.
I think this is the best budget eyeshadow primer which I’ve ever tried and I can’t believe how affordable it is. It’s easy to apply, longlasting, and makes my eyeshadows look a lot more pigmented and vivid and best of all, it’s just £2.50 – amazing.
