Kérastase Discipline Curl Idéal Collection

Kérastase is a brand which never disappoints, and their new collection is fantastic and will be greatly received by all of those with curly hair which struggle to find curl-friendly haircare products. I have naturally wavy hair which drives me mad as I simply can’t leave it to air dry or roughly blow dry it as it becomes a massive frizzy mess, so I always have to try and tame it but some taming products can be a little too heavy on the hair. The new Kérastase Discipline Curl Idéal Collection consists of four products and has been launched to enhance curly hair, with shape-in-motion care that shapes curls whilst maintaining natural movement. The Kérastase Discipline Curl Idéal Collection range disciplines and defines curls for a springy effect with its unique Pro-Keratine and Hydrolized Elastin technology. All of the Curl Idéal range will be available to purchase on the Kérastase UK website very soon.

Kérastase Cleansing Conditioner Curl Idéal 400ml £29

The Kérastase Discipline Curl Idéal Collection begins with the cleansing conditioner which was the product I was most looking forward to trying as I’ve never tried a cleansing conditioner before, but I’ve seen so much about it on Pinterest so I was excited to give it a try.

This cleansing conditioner offers cleansing care for curls which have been dried out by traditional shampoos that remove too much sebum, and the formula has been adjusted to protect the hydrophilic film, free from silicone and sulphates, the cationic and amphoteric surfactants gently remove any impurities whilst lipid compounds nourish and smooth the hair’s fibre.

The directions for this cleanser is to apply 2-4 pumps through wet hair, and allow the conditioner to gently penetrate your scalp for 2-3 minutes and then work into a generous lather and rinse well. The first time I tried this product I was convinced that it wouldn’t leave my hair feeling clean, but I couldn’t have been more wrong as it’s very effective at cleansing my hair thoroughly without stripping away any moisture which sometimes happens with other shampoos, which I then have to replace with copious amounts of conditioner.

I really love the pump on the bottle of this conditioner as it makes application so much easier when in the shower so you don’t have to fiddle with caps and lids, and I wish more brands would introduce pumps to their shampoo/conditioner bottles.

Kérastase Discipline Masque Curl Idéal 200ml £29

This is an intensive hair mask which claims to restore life and control overly voluminous hair from the roots to the tips, magnifying the shape and suppleness of the curls whilst restoring moisture. It contains a cationic derivative which smooths and softens the hair fibre whilst silicone controls volume and frizz. The directions for this mask are; Apply to damp, cleansed hair from roots to ends, massage into hair fiber and spread on the scalp for greater root control, leave in for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

The consistency of this mask is quite thick, and it smells absolutely incredible (the whole collection does, but this mask is definitely the stand out scent wise) and I take around a golf ball sized amount for my long hair, and cover the hair from root to tip as per the instructions but I like to leave it on for longer than 5 minutes so I really feel the benefits once I’ve rinsed it out.

From all of the products in the collection, I would say this is the one which offers the greatest difference in how sleek and controlled my hair is. When I use this mask I find my hair is so much more manageable, and flyaways are definitely more smoothed and co-operative than they usually are but it doesn’t weight my hair down even though it’s a very intensive mask.

Kérastase Discipline Mousse Curl Idéal 150ml £20.90

This mousse claims to give ‘instant metamorphosis and fixes the curls movement and adds bounce with no restriction, no residue and perfect definition, and is suitable for all hair types. The mousse contains carrageenan seaweed extract which is a natural fixing polymer which provides unique texture to define curls and moisturising glycerine provides lightweight support, whilst xylone acts as a thermos-protective agent.

think mousse is a love it or hate it kind of product, and I love it and I’ve found it one of the best styling products for naturally wavy hair like mine as it really helps to define the curls and offers great hold too, but some can be a little too heavy and leave my hair feeling crispy but this is a lovely, lightweight mousse. My favourite way to use this mousse is to scrunch it through towel dried hair and allow it to air dry, and it creates a voluminous, beachy wave look which I favour for most of the Spring and Summer as humidity is not my friend.

Kérastase Discipline Oléo-Curl Definition and Suppleness Creme 100ml £20.90

This is a leave in, defining cream that promotes relaxed, frizz-free curls with hydration and shine. It helps to enhance the curl’s shape and definition without rigidity, it promotes relaxed and supple curls with a cosmetic touch as well as frizz control and curl hydration. It can be used in two different ways – on damp hair, spread the creme downwards through lengths and ends using fingers to gently relax the curls, and leave in the hair and style as normal, or on dry hair – smooth over lengths and ends, pushing curls up to reshape and style as desired.

The creme contains Xylose which is a thermo-protective agent which ideal if you’re using a diffuser on your curls. I really like this leave in conditioner, and I personally prefer to use it in my damp hair as I find it helps perfect my style, and it reduces frizziness and flyaways and really does make my hair feel very soft and silky.

Overall the Kérastase Discipline Curl Idéal Collection is a really is a fantastic collection, and I think each product works so well that you could choose to use only one product from the collection within your routine and see visible results, but obviously the more products you use, the better the final finish. I think the products are well priced for a luxury skincare brand, especially when you consider how generous the sizes are; especially on the Cleansing Conditioner. I would love to know what hair type you have, and if you’d like to try any of these products? Let me know in the comments below..
