French Pharmacy favourites Avène have recently launched a brand new collection which consists of just three products, and I have been trialing two of the trio. The Avène Tolérance Extrême range has been formulated using a maximum of seven essential ingredients, which work in synergy to form a non-complicated yet effective and high performing range working to leave skin hydrated, soft and supple.
Like the skin, Tolérance EXTRÊME formulas contain a combination of water, a humectant (Glycerin to lock in hydration) and a selection of oils (lipids) that keep skin hydrated and protect the skin’s barrier. This combination of skin friendly ingredients leaves skin feeling comfortably nourished, allowing it to breathe.
In addition to the new Avène Tolérance Extrême Mask & Cream, they have developed Sterile Cosmetics which is a unique form of packaging that protects the formula without the need for any preservatives (or parabens).
Producing the formula in a sterile environment and using unique DEFI packaging (Device for Exclusive Formula Integrity) and a patented flip-cap system protects the formula from oxidation and retro-contamination. This eliminates the need for any preservatives, keeping the formulas simple. The tubes have a little valve which pops up when you squeeze the tube to dispense the product which is really clever, and I like that you know it’s completely sterile thanks to the clever packaging.
The Avène Tolérance Extrême Mask £15 & Cream £13.50 are both available to purchase from Escentual alongside the rest of the Avène range. The Avène Tolérance Extrême Mask is described as being an intensely soothing and calming mask for all skin types and has a refreshing texture that nourishes skin intensely without feeling heavy, allowing skin to breathe. In just 5 minutes it provides a concentrated boost of hydration.
The Avène Tolérance Extrême Cream has a comforting, creamy texture which melts quickly into the skin, allowing it to breathe and leaves behind a velvety soft finish. Both the Mask and the Cream contain the following seven ingredients;
1. Avène Thermal Spring Water – clinically proven to be soothing and anti- irritating.
2. Glycerin – a plant based moisturising agent that locks in hydration.
3. Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride – a nourishing yet breathable emollient.
4. Behenyl Alcohol – creates a film to protect the skin’s barrier.
5. Shea butter – a soft , creamy emollient.
6. Safflower oil – a nourishing oil, rich in anti-free radical tocopherol (Vitamin E).
7. Sodium Acrylates / C10-C30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer -Texturizing agent to help the product spread easily and absorb quickly.
The Mask and Cream have quite similar textures, with the mask having a slightly thicker consistency but in my opinion you could use the cream as a mask if you were to apply a generous layer to the skin so I’m not sure you need both products but I’m certainly enjoying using both within my skincare routine.
I have very sensitive skin which has become even more sensitive over the last year, and I’m always wary when trying new skincare products incase they cause a reaction especially as I have contact dermatitis which can blister but I always feel ‘safe’ when using Avène’s products as they use such gentle formulas. If like me you suffer with contact dermatitis or other skin concerns, I cannot recommend Avène as a brand enough and these two new additions are super nourishing and soothing for my dry skin.
