Discussing a pillow on a beauty blog might be a little strange to some people but sleep is affectionately known as ‘beauty sleep’ for a reason, with your skin reflecting your lack of sleep. When you sleep, your brain and body remain active with deep sleep; collagen and keratin production may be stepped up, and skin cells may replicate faster. Obviously we need sleep to function but I’m sure we’ve all had the nightmare of a mission the following morning trying to hide the telltale signs of an awful night’s sleep with copious amounts of corrector and concealer but I’ve been trialing the Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow recently in a bid to improve the quality of my sleep.
Panda are a Bamboo pillow and bedding company based in London and was formed through our journey of looking for stylish, designer quality bed linen which are also ecological and environmentally friendly. They discovered the bamboo viscose fabric in the backwoods of Southeast Asia made from 100% bamboo fibre and immediately fell in love with the luxurious softness and silkiness of the fabric as well as its sustainability and environmental benefits.
I’ve heard of lots of different uses for bamboo but never have I heard of bamboo being used for making pillows and bedding but I was interested to learn the reasons why Panda decided to use in their products. Bamboo is said to be twice as soft as cotton and is naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic which helps to protect against skin irritation and allergies, making it suitable for those who suffer from eczema, sensitive skin or hay fever caused by dust mites.
Bamboo viscose is extremely breathable while its structure and absorption properties act as a natural insulator to aid coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter, and due to the absorbent properties of bamboo, the fabric wicks moisture and odour from our body keeping us dry and comfortable plus bamboo is a sustainable resource. I had no idea bamboo had so many amazing properties, and I really like that Panda donate $1 for every Panda Pillow or Bed Set purchased worldwide to the WWF foundation in order to help preserve the wild panda’s at-risk.
The Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow is £49.99 but at the time of writing this post is on offer for £34.99 which qualifies for free UK delivery.
- The original Panda memory foam bamboo pillow with a triple layer moulded memory foam for an ultimate support and comfort.
- Hypoallergenic, dust mite free and antibacterial bamboo cover offers a silky smooth touch and its easy to remove and wash.
- Temperature regulating technology will keep the pillow cool in the summer and warm in the winter thanks to the highly breathable bamboo cover which keeps the air flowing.
I’d never used a memory foam pillow before receiving this one so I didn’t really know what to expect or if I’d like it as I like my pillows to be soft but I do suffer with a lot of back pain so I know that a lot of that could be down to the lack of support from sleeping on such soft pillows. The pillow is heavier than normal pillows due the foam but is the same size as a typical pillow and the pillow’s bamboo cover is extremely silky soft, and I love that there’s a embroidered panda on one of the corners of the cover for an understated cute touch.
The pillow cover has a slight dimpled surface and is secured to the pillow with a zip and can be easily removed the cover. I know you can sleep directly onto the case, but I personally prefer to use one of my pillow cases over the top of the Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow as I like my bedding to match and I just prefer the pillow to be a little more protected and I’ve found that I still get the benefits of being kept cool through the night.
I was worried that it’d take a couple of nights for me to get accustomed to using such a firm pillow as it’s so different to what I’m used to but I didn’t as I slept very the first night I used it. The foam is very comfortable and is soft enough that you feel cosy and comfortable, but it’s a lot more supportive for your neck and shoulders. Due to working on a computer every single day, my posture is pretty awful so I’m glad I’m now using a pillow which fully supports my head and neck.
What really impressed me with the Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow is that they offer a 30 night home trial and a 10 year manufacturers guarantee for extra peace of mind when trialing the pillow. Now I’ve experienced the comfort and support of a Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow, I’m not sure I’d be able to go back to using a normal pillow now.
I would love to know if you have you ever tried a memory foam pillow before? The brand has kindly given me a promo code for you with MAGPIE10 giving you 10% off purchases.
