Kiehls Breakout Control Blemish Fighting Duo

I’ve really developed a love for Kiehls during 2016 after trying products from their skincare and bodycare line, so I was particularly intrigued by their newest launch as it’s specifically targeted towards those with blemish prone skin which couldn’t be more perfect for my skin. When I hit my twenties I thought I’d finally be saying goodbye to my blemish prone skin but sadly I never really got rid of my teenage skincare woes, and I’m still plagued by blemishes at 29 which is seriously frustrating.

I have dry and dehydrated skin from my cheeks up to my scalp but my chin and jawline have more of a normal skin type but they’re very blemish prone. Over the years I’ve tried endless blemish treatments and methods to try and prevent blemishes but the only thing which helps my breakouts is by eradicating dairy from my diet completely, and whenever I eat/drink anything containing dairy, sure enough I will get numerous blemishes within 48 hours.

Obviously the ‘easy’ option to improve my skin is to remove dairy from my diet which I have done and my skin is so, so, so much better than it used to be where it would be normal for me to have 10+ blemishes at any one time. My skin doesn’t breakout providing I stay away from dairy but I do still get hormonal breakouts which can’t be prevented but I’m always on the hunt for products which will stop a blemish in its tracks and quicken the whole healing process as much as possible as I personally hate the aftermath of a blemish rather than an active blemish as broken/dry skin is so much harder to conceal.. enter the new Kiehls Breakout Control Blemish Fighting Duo.

Kiehls Breakout Control Blemish Fighting Duo

Kiehls have just launched their Breakout Control Collection for treating blemishes, which currently consists of two products; Kiehls Breakout Control Blemish Treatment Facial Lotion and the Kiehls Breakout Control Targeted Blemish Spot Treatment which are designed to be used together to prevent new blemishes, and reduce the appearance of existing blemishes.

Kiehls say;

“This facial treatment lotion helps to correct and help prevent future blemishes, while reducing the appearance of dullness and rough texture. Formulated with acne-clearing Salicylic Acid and Pine Bark Extract, our facial treatment lotion calms and soothes inflamed skin, while diminishing visible redness and evening skin tone for a clear complexion. Over time, skin appears healthy and youthfully refined.”

For application, Kiehls recommend cleansing skin thoroughly prior to applying the lotion, and apply a thin layer to the affected area once daily and blend into the skin, and it can be increased to twice or three times a day if needed. The directions advise to reduce number of applications if peeling or dryness occurs. The lotion has a very lightweight consistency which absorbs into the skin quickly and doesn’t feel too greasy or sticky once it’s absorbed although you can definitely tell you’ve applied a lotion to the skin.

The lotion has a slightly strange scent which is making me laugh right now as I type this, but to me it smells like salad/spring onions which I know is really odd but it really does smell like spring onions which might not be for everyone, but you could perhaps swing by a Kiehls counter to give it a try/sniff. I can’t honestly say I’ve noticed an improvement in the amount of blemishes I’ve had/not had as my blemishes are hormonal but I do like how smoothing it is on the skin, and it’s a good product to own so I

Kiehls say;

“This targeted blemish spot treatment helps to rapidly reduce the appearance of acne breakouts. Formulated with Sulfur for acne-clearing and Vitamin B3 for skin, our acne spot treatment blends evenly into skin and works to help reduce the appearance of blemishes.”

The directions recommend applying a thin layer onto thoroughly cleansed skin, directly onto the blemish and you can increase the applications to two or three times a day if necessary. The consistency of the spot treatment is unique to other spot treatments I’ve tried in that it’s a thick, dense cream with a slightly yellowish tint which I guess is down to the sulfur content.

When I first apply the cream to a blemish, it does tingle slightly but not in an uncomfortable way.. it’s more of a minty tingle, minus the mint if that even makes sense. It doesn’t hurt, sting or burn which I really like as some blemish treatments can be quite harsh and make my eyes water but this one is ideal for sensitive skin like mine. Sulphur is known for it’s ability to be a gentle antiseptic that disinfects skin and is less drying than benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. I can’t remember using a sulfur-based spot treatment before, but I do really appreciate how gentle yet effective this one as it doesn’t make my skin feel uncomfortable and/or super dry.

It really does work to quickly zap blemishes in their tracks, and although it doesn’t stop all blemishes from developing.. if you’re quick off the mark and apply it as soon as you feel one under the skin, there’s a big chance that you’ll be able to get it in time. Until now the Vichy Normaderm Hyaluspot was my holy grail spot treatment, but this has knocked the Hyaluspot off my top spot (pardon the pun).
