It’s time for the Birchbox January 2017, and for this month’s box Birchbox have created a ‘sprinkle happiness’ box which is in one of their drawer boxes. I personally don’t like the drawer boxes as I prefer the boxes with the lid, or like last month when it was a proper box but from looking on their Instagram, it would appear that a lot of subscribers like these drawer boxes so maybe I’m alone in not liking them.
Every month Birchbox like to do a reveal of a couple of products within the month’s box and last month this was VERY exciting as the two products which were revealed were the Ciaté full size eyeliner, and the Bobbi Brown Mascara. The Birchbox December 2017 box was amazing in every way possible and I didn’t see any negative reviews or comments about it, so it’s always going to be hard to follow a box as amazing as December’s but the Birchbox January 2017 is in my opinion, one of the least disappointing boxes from Birchbox and I was one of their very first subscribers at the beginning when they were Boudoir Prive and JolieBox.
Starting off in the Birchbox January 2017 box we have a full size of the Lord & Berry Conceal-It Crayon in the shade Beige worth £12. Firstly I have to say, putting a concealer in a beauty box is a really strange choice as the percentage of skintones this one particular shade is going to match is extremely slim and this is one of the ‘star’ products within the box.
Birchbox love to repeat Lord & Berry but there are so many different products which they could have chosen to put in the box, but a concealer is a poor choice in my opinion especially as Birchbox say the shade can be used for highlighting the browbone but the shade is pretty dark so it’ll only work as an highlighter for those with deep skintones.
Then we have a 4ml sample of the Nails Inc Special Effects Nail Polish in the shade Stratford which is a shade Nails Inc don’t even make anymore so I’m guessing it’s left over stock and seeing as a Nails Inc polish is 14ml, this really is a very small sample and what really bothers me is some people got a FULL SIZE Soigne Nail Polish in their box which isn’t very fair for paying members.
The last full size product within the box is the Merci Handy New Wave Love & Hand Cream which is worth £4.36 and was the second spoiler product shown on their Instagram page. I’m always grateful for handcream at this time of year as my hands are permanently dry but this hand cream has the strangest scent which I’ve only just put my finger on – it smells like barbies/dolls. I know it sounds ridiculous but you have to trust me, it smells like sweet plastic which might appeal to some but for me it makes me feel a little queasy and it’s not very hydrating either sadly.
The next item in the Birchbox January 2017 box is a sample size of the Whish Shave Cream in the Acai Grapefruit scent which is described as a non-foaming, nourishing formula which also protects against irritation. The last item in the box is a 10ml size of the NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil for face, body and hair. I am a big NUXE fan but they have to be one of the most repeated brands within beauty boxes, and NUXE featured in their November box and their September box so three times in five months which is a little excessive.
I must just finish by telling you that the spoiler for next month’s box is that the box will contain a stunning Spectrum Collections Makeup Brush which is very exciting so fingers crossed this was a one off. I would love to know your thoughts on this month’s box in the comments below. I have had a lot of feedback over on my Instagram after I posted a photo of the contents, and it would appear the majority of people are unhappy with this month’s lineup.
