NYX Tinted Brow Mascara

My favourite brow gel of all time is the Benefit Gimme Brow, which I’ve repurchased at least four times since it launched but I’ve found myself start to fall out of love with it so I’ve been on the hunt for a replacement. Gimme Brow is amazing at filling and setting my brows, however it’s only amazing for around five to six weeks before the formula begins to thicken and become quite thick and gloopy and I find myself binning it way before it’s finished as I hate having to clean the brush before I use it every single day. Benefit Gimme Brow isn’t cheap either, it’s £18.50 for just 3ml of product which isn’t great value especially when I never get to finish it before I bin it. I decided to try the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara as it sounded like a budget alternative for Gimme Brow and it’s only £5.50 so was well worth a shot…

The NYX Tinted Brow Mascara is available in a total of five shades which is fab, and Gimme Brow is available in just three shades. I purchased my NYX Tinted Brow Mascara from Feelunique, and I was surprised by how big the tube was when it arrived, as it contains 6.5ml which is more than double the product of Gimme Brow. From the five shades on offer, I opted for Brunette which NYX describe as being an ‘ash brown’ which I thought would be best suited for my naturally very dark brows.

The NYX Tinted Brow Mascara brush is twice the size of the brush on Gimme Brow, but it’s still relatively small and it’s a little different in that the rows of bristles have quite deep grooves between them, but this actually makes application quite messy as your brows and skin get covered in product.

The Brunette shade is quite warm in tone considering NYX describe it as being ashy but it’s too warm, and light for my brows unfortunately. The gel does set my brow hairs in place all day, and it doesn’t set too hard or crispy but the colour’s off for me and I just don’t like the brush and that it doesn’t contain any fibres to give the impression of fuller brows.

Gimme Brow is still definitely my favourite as it’s more volumising than the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara but I did do a Battle of the Tinted Brow Gels post where I compared lots of different tinted gels to see which was the best and I much prefer the Essence Make Me Brow as it’s much cheaper and the shades are better.

I also like that the Essence brow gel contains fibres like Gimme Brow does, and the brush is very small so I can be super precise with my application. I don’t think I can justify paying £19 for Gimme Brow anymore when it dries up so quickly so I think I’ll stick to my Essence Make Me Brow as it’s an almost identical product minus the hefty price tag.
