It feels like almost every drugstore brand has recently launched new brow products, with one of the newest launches being the Rimmel Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powders which are available in four different shades and retail for £5.99 each. The Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powder is packaged within a well like pot with a long lid similar to the packaging of the Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner. The Brow This Way range already consists of a few products; the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Sculpting Kit (containing brow powder, wax and mini tools), the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Highlighter (a highlighter pencil) and the Rimmel Brow This Way Styling Gels (tinted and clear brow gels).
One of the very first eyebrow products I ever tried when I was in my teens was the Rimmel Professional Eye Pencil which is still available today and only £3. Brows have become big business over the last few years thanks to the likes of Cara Delevingne who happens to front the campaign surrounding the launch of the new Rimmel Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powder with the campaign hashtag; #BrowLikeCara.
The Rimmel Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powder has a flexible soft sponge, and before using the powder you must shake the pot to ensure the sponge is covered in powder. Rimmel claim that the powders have 3 uses in 1; fill, define and line your brows, and the flexibility within the nib lends itself well to create short strokes throughout the brows. The powder is super pigmented which I didn’t expect, and in all honesty I do find them to be a little too pigmented as they can give you sharpie brows very easily.
Another issue I’ve found with them is that the powder nature of the formula causes a lot of fall out, and the first time I tried them I looked like a dalmatian as my foundation was peppered in powder so now I use them prior to applying my base to prevent any further fall out issues. I have however found a ‘fix’ for the fallout issue and to give a subtler finish by dabbing the sponge on the back of my hand a few times before applying to my brows to knock off any loose, excess powder and ensure the sponge isn’t overloaded with product which I’ve found to be a lot more effective.
The four Rimmel Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powder shades are Soft Black (a cool toned charcoal), Dark Brown (warm chocolate brown), Medium Brown (warm light brown) and Light Brown (a warm toned brown). I don’t think the shades cover the best range of hair colours as the lightest is definitely not light enough for blonde/grey hair and I found it to have somewhat of a green tint to it which I had to double check in natural light to make sure I wasn’t going mad.
The best shade for my very dark brown brows is Medium Brown as the coolest brown shade in the range as the other two browns are very warm toned but even Medium Brown makes my brows look orange so I really wish they’d created a cooler brown tone as they’re all very warm apart from the ‘black’. I think they are definitely an innovative launch, but I do feel that the shade range lets them down slightly but fingers crossed if they launch goes well, they’ll possibly extend the shade range further to include some cooler toned browns and some genuinely lighter shades too.
I’d love to know your thoughts on the new Rimmel Brow This Way 3 in 1 Ultra Soft Powder? Does the concept appeal to you and would you be able to find a shade match?
