The Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder became a cult favourite product thanks to Mario Dedivanovic admitting it was the secret to Kim Kardashian’s flawless makeup, and the reason why her her under eye area always looks super brightened. Following the admission, you couldn’t get your hands on the Ben Nye Banana Powder anywhere but luckily it’s a lot more accessible now for us in the UK thanks to Precious About Makeup.
People call the powder ‘the Banana Powder’ but it’s actually the Ben Nye Luxury Powder which is available in a number of shades; one of which being ‘Banana’. The Ben Nye Luxury Powders are luxurious silky-fine, mattifying translucent loose setting powders which come in a selection of different shades to suit different skin tones; Cameo, Banana, Buff, Beige Suede and Rose Petal. The most iconic packaging format for the powder is the large translucent pots containing either 42g or 85g of products which isn’t travel friends sky or easy to store whatsoever.
There is however now a much more convenient container for the Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder in terms of size on the Precious About Makeup website for the Banana Powder and that is the Domed Jar which contains 26g of powder and has a sifter which makes application a lot easier and it only costs £13.50 (on offer for £10.80 at the time of writing this post) which is such a good deal for a high quality setting powder. I have never been tempted by the large, bulky jars of the powder as they’re designed for makeup artists rather than for personal use so the domed jar is the much better option in my opinion.
What does the Ben Nye Banana Powder do?
“Ben Nye’s Luxury Powder gives you more than enough reason to go bananas for this silky-fine, mattifying translucent setting powder! With just a hint of colour, you won’t miss the white cast in your photos that often comes with other finishing powders. See what all the buzz is about in just a light dusting of Banana.
Does your foundation always seem to pull pink on your otherwise warm-toned complexion? The versatile Banana shade suits just about any skin tone as it softly and subtly colour corrects surface redness and pink undertones, as well as neutralizes bluish under eye circles. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a client this powder won’t look flawless on! Ben Nye’s Luxury Powder is specially formulated to absorb excess oil and soften the appearance of pores and texture.“
Before trying the powder I instantly assumed it wouldn’t work for me as my skin is so pale and cool toned, I just thought a bright yellow powder would look ridiculous on me. I do have to use an extremely light hand as it’s very easy to go overboard but providing I use a super fluffy brush, the yellow tint isn’t noticeable on my skin. If I use a denser brush, the yellow tint is visible so I ensure I use the tiniest amount with a brush such as the Real Techniques Setting Brush and lightly dust over the top of my concealer to set it in place.
If you were worried about the yellow tint being a little too much for your skintone, you could always add a little white translucent powder to your brush with the Banana powder to dilute it a little but as long as I use a light hand, I can make it work for me. If you are wanting to try the Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder, I’d really recommend this domed jar packaging as it’s so much easier to store and more user friendly than the large jar.
