Summer is most definitely here in the UK with crazy humidity, scorching sunshine and torrential rain – sometimes all in one day. Most of us love the Summer, but I have to be honest I much prefer the cooler months and would rather live in the North Pole than Hawaii. I really hate how humid the UK’s summer can be as not only is it really uncomfortable but it also plays havoc with my naturally frizzy hair, so I tend to wear my super long hair in a top knot all summer long in a bid to resist the frizz.

The humidity can be a nightmare for your hair, but your hair can become damaged so Philip Kingsley have developed a range which delivers effortless summer styling whilst also guarding against against UV, salt and chlorinated water damage. Read on to find out more about each product….

Philip Kingsley After-Sun Scalp Mask 75ml £17

If you’ve ever burnt your scalp, you’ll know how incredibly painful it can be and this mask is the perfect remedy should you ever be in that situation. It’s a calming scalp mask which is ideal for soothing any sunburnt scalps and sensitive skin as it provides immediate and longlasting comfort.

The mask is infused with chamomile extract as well as high levels of aloe vera; both of which are known for their soothing properties, and the mask can be used on dry scalps all year round to ensure your scalp is both healthy and hydrated, and is suitable for all hair types. By using this mask, it helps to create the optimum scalp environment for healthy hair growth.

To use the mask you simply apply to dampened hair in partings 3cm/1 inch apart, working from the front of the head to the back and gently massage the product into the scalp and leave in place for 10-20 minutes. The aloe vera within the mask helps to soothe, calm and hydrate the scalp, chamomile extract soothes and conditions sensitive skin, ProVitamin B5 conditions both the scalp and the hair and menthol cools and moisturisers the scalp.

Swimcap was originally created for the US Olympic synchronised swimming team, and is a favourite amongst professional swimmers. It’s not a new product, but it’s been repackaged for the new Philip Kingsley Summer Solutions collection. It has a water resistant formula to give the hair maximum protection against discolouration and dryness from chlorine, salt water and UV damage whilst deeply hydrating the hair.

The Swimcap will help to extend the life of colour treated hair and stop blonde hair from turning green, and in my opinion is a suitcase staple should you be going on holiday this summer, especially if you have colour treated hair. I don’t have colour treated hair myself, nor am I going on holiday this year so I’m going to gift this to my friend who is going on holiday soon, as I know she’ll love it as it’s such a cult product.

Philip Kingsley Sun Shield UV Defence 100ml £22

Did you know that you can burn your hair?! Hair can burn when unprotected just like the skin, which I had never heard before. The Philip Kingsley Sun Shield UV Defence and guards against colour fade from sun exposure and diminishes damage and dryness caused by the UV rays, chlorine and salt water. It’s a lightweight, nourishing mist which provides sun protection as well as frizz control even in humid conditions.

The mist is super easy to use and can be applied to wet or dry hair, by misting it all over your hair as a leave-in treatment. It contains hydroelastin which is known for its excellent conditioning benefits, a chlorine protector to prevent against hair damage and sunflower seed extract to protect against harmful UV rays.

The Instant Beach has an innovative, salt-free conditioning formula which works to nourish and condition the hair whilst giving natural looking texture and hold. The spray features elastin and meadowfoam oil to nourish and condition the hair to create soft, bouncy beachy waves without drying the hair out or causing breakage. Extract of sunflower seed helps to protect against UV rays, flexible styling polymers offer touchable hold and a chlorine neutraliser to help prevent damage from chlorine.

The Philip Kingsley Elasticizer is the brand’s most iconic, best-selling product which has won an amazing 24 awards since its initial launch and can be purchased in a number of sizes in the original formula ranging from a 40ml tube through to a 1000ml tub.

Occasionally Philip Kingsley launch limited edition scented versions and the newest launch is the Philip Kingsley Coconut Breeze Elasticizer 150ml £33 which ties in with the Philip Kingsley Summer Solutions collection nicely as it was inspired by Kingsley’s love of America’s West Coast. The Coconut Breeze scent features notes of bergamot, orange and soft peach which encapsulate the freshness of living by the sea with an heart of coconut, jasmine and velvety vanilla which reflect the vibrancy of the sunset.

The directions are; apply to dampened hair prior to applying shampoo in sections from the mid-lengths to ends, ensuring maximum coverage. Cover hair with a shower cap or towel, as the heat helps the nutrients to be fully absorbed. Leave for 10-20 minutes or as long as you wish, and shampoo and condition as normal.
