Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate

The Clarins Double Serum is one of their bestselling products and a product I’ve tried and loved previously so I was excited to learn they’d reformulated the old favourite for the 2017 version of the Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate – but how did it compare to the original formula?! With the tagline “the best just got better” it’s safe to say I had pretty high hopes. The Clarins Double Serum 2017 is available in two different sizes; 30ml £57 and 50ml £75 and it’s described as being suitable for all skin types.

The 2017 version of the Clarins Double Serum is the 8th generation of the serum after its initial launch in 1985. Not only has the formula been reformulated, the packaging has also been revamped to mirror the innovative formula with the lipidic phase being now placed within the hydric phase with a new dial pump system allowing you to be able to customise the amount of product you dispense.

This is such a genius idea as you can apply as much or as little as you need depending on the seasons and your skin’s condition. The lid has a ‘small drop’ and a ‘large drop’ rotating dial with the small drop suggested for combination to oily skin types, warm and humid climates and during the summer, and the large drop for normal, dry or sensitive skin, cold and dry climates and the winter months.

The Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate combines the richness of an oil without the greasy feel with the melting softness of an ultra-comforting gel. I think it’s really intriguing that this serum is suitable for all skin types, especially with the dosage dial as oilier skins can opt for a small application whilst drier and dehydrated skins like mine can use the larger drop for a more generous application.

I love how hi-tech the bottle is with the hydric (water souble) and lipidic (oil soluble) phases being in two separate compartments within the bottle which are mixed together when you press the pump (with ⅔ water-based ingredients and ⅓ oil-based ones per pump) but I’d recommend mixing it a little further between your fingertips before applying to the face to ensure it’s thoroughly blended.

The serum feels like a serum and oil hybrid in that it’s a little rich yet fluid enough to spread evenly over the skin. I have super dry skin so I only ever use the ‘large drop’ option but it doesn’t dispense a large amount of product in my opinion. To me the large drop option dispenses the amount you typically get with one pump of serum whereas the ‘small drop’ is around half the amount so on drier skin days I’d perhaps use one large drop and one small drop for an extra boost of hydration.

I find that it absorbs quickly into the skin and it smells heavenly for a serum which makes application a little more enjoyable but the scent doesn’t linger nor does it aggravate my sensitive skin. I really enjoy using this serum in the mornings as it’s rich enough to quench any dryness and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth and looking more radiant.

I can’t help but feel like a chemist when being able to customise my serum dosage and I like how effective the dial is at controlling the amount of product which is dispensed. The clinical trial results speak for themselves with over 360 women tested over 28 days with 90% noticing visibly smoother skin, 87% saw more radiant skin and 81% noticed visibly firmer skin. Trials have also proved that skin is more elastic, skin is hydrated all day long and pores are diminished and tightened.
