There’s been a lot of controversy in the past with Lime Crime as a brand and I’ve not tried anything new from them in around three years. I have two of their Unicorn Lipsticks but I believe they’ve now been discontinued so I was excited to be able to try a few of the newer Lime Crime releases as I’ve seen so much hype around them on Instagram especially. The Lime Crime Hot Stuff Brush Set caught my eye as I’m instantly drawn to anything glittery or sparkly. The brush set looked very pretty on the Cult Beauty website however the stock photos don’t do the brushes justice at all, so I’ve included lots of closeup photos as they’re absolutely stunning brushes.
Lime Crime currently have two different brush sets; the Aquarium Brush Set and the Hot Stuff Brush Set, and they both contain a selection of cruelty free synthetic makeup brushes with a liquid glitter effect within the handles. I’ve seen so many liquid glitter handle brushes all over eBay and AliExpress which look a little tacky so I wasn’t sure what the Lime Crime brushes would be like in real life. The Lime Crime Hot Stuff Brush Set contains three large face makeup brushes, whilst the Aquarium Brush Set contains seven brushes for the face and eyes as well as a pouch for storage.
“The Hot Stuff Brush set is sure to set your heart on fire! 3 essential liquid glitter face brushes will complete you and your makeup brush collection. The flaming hot brush set features cruelty-free, ultra-soft, red-pink ombre fibers and dreamy heart glitter that floats through the handles to sparkle & move as you work your makeup magic. Features 3 cruelty-free face brushes to be used with powder, contour, and blush – or any other way your heart desires! Packed in a flaming red-hot gift box.”
What surprised me the most with the three brushes was how weighty and well made they were, as I assumed the water effect within the handle would make them super light and perhaps a little flimsy but they really aren’t. The bristles are super soft and silky with a gorgeous bright pink to red ombré effect, and each brush is densely packed with bristles which are all so well cut with zero shedding through use or being washed. I really like the tapered lilac ferrules and the raised unicorn logo on the base of each brush as it really shows their amazing attention to detail.
Lime Crime Hot Stuff Brush Set – Fluffy Powder Brush
Lime Crime Hot Stuff Brush Set – Angled Contour Brush
Lime Crime Hot Stuff Brush Set – Pointed Blush Brush
The powder brush is a really great size as it’s large enough to apply powder quickly and easily but it’s not too big that you can’t be more precise with your powder application if you want to just powder your T-Zone. It works well for bronzer too as it’s so fluffy and I bet it’d also be good for applying highlighter to your shoulders and decolletage too. The angled contour brush reminds me of a slightly denser version of the Sigma F40 brush and whilst it’s too big for a precise contour, I like to use it to diffuse my contour after applying it with the Zoeva 109 Face Paint Brush for a more natural finish.
The Pointed Blush Brush is my new favourite blush brush as it’s the perfect size for applying blush to the apples of the cheeks, as well as doubling up as a highlighter or bronzer brush. I think £34 is a really great price for three luxury makeup brushes for the quality of the brush heads alone as it works out at just £11.33 a brush. The box is so pretty alone and this would make for the perfect gift for any makeup addict, and the glitter handles make them so unique. The water within the handles has red hearts, pink hearts and holographic disc glitter pieces and they’re so mesmerising everytime I use them.
