Too Faced TF20 Makeup Collection

2018 is a very special year for Too Faced as it’s their 20th anniversary after being founded by Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson in 1998 as they were unimpressed and distressed by the too-serious-state of the cosmetics industry, they longed to start a company that brought back unapologetic glamour and femininity. I remember falling in love with Too Faced when I worked in Boots whilst in sixth form doing my A levels, back when Too Faced were stocked in Boots. Back then Too Faced didn’t have a counter as such, it was more of an aisle and I loved heading over to their stand, swatching and cleaning up the testers.

I still own some old school Too Faced palettes which I never use, but I can’t ever get rid of them as they remind me of my first foray into higher end makeup including the Decade of Glamour Palette in wardrobe style packaging, the Shadow Bon Bons Palette, the Naughty and Nice Set and the Liquif-eye Palette. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, they’ve created the Too Faced TF20 Makeup Collection which made me so excited and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the collection.

Too Faced Then and Now Eyeshadow Palette £52

For the Too Faced TF20 Makeup Collection, they took the original collection from 1998 that started it all and reinvented it with a dazzling 2018 twist. The star product within the Too Faced TF20 Makeup Collection is the limited edition Too Faced Then and Now Eyeshadow Palette which is amazing and a must-have piece for any Too Faced as it contains the original Too Faced 10 eyeshadow shades which have been reproduced in a modern formula as well as 10 completely new eyeshadows inspired by the originals reimagined with a 2018 twist.

  • Inspired by the original 10 Too Faced eye shadow shades
  • Modern mix of gorgeous browns, purple, blues, and greens
  • 20 pearl, matte, and glitter shades
  • Creamy, buttery texture for easy blendability
  • One-swipe payoff for highly-pigmented color
  • Smells like yummy birthday cake

Kicking off with the fabulous packaging, the Too Faced Then and Now Eyeshadow Palette is pretty huge compared to say the Sweet Peach Palette or Chocolate Bar Palette. Even the outer box has a gorgeous pink glitter finish with the 1998 Too Faced logo in raised, gold writing.

The palette itself has the same finish to the box and has cardboard casing with one of the strongest magnets I’ve seen with a cardboard palette. The pink glitter is extremely sparkly and very apt for a birthday palette, and the inside is lined with gold metallic card and there’s a slim mirror within the lid too which is a nice touch as it’s such a large palette.

Inside the box alongside the palette there’s a Glamour Guide with six makeup looks and step by step instructions on how to create each look. Too Faced always include looks within their palettes, but the looks within this particular guide are gorgeous.

The top row contains ten circular eyeshadows for the circa 1998 collection and the bottom row contains ten square pans for the circa 2018 collection. The last shade in each row has an unique split pan design with two shades in one which they don’t do anymore but I like that they’ve brought back that concept for this palette with both rows.

The 1998 circa row is shimmer central to reflect the trends of 1998 where it was all about the shimmer, but circa 2018 contains shimmers and mattes, and the mattes work well with both rows and Too Faced have done a really good job at choosing versatile matte shades.

Too Faced eyeshadows are pretty consistently brilliant and this palette is no different with super smooth and buttery textures which are easy to blend and they’re intense without losing their intensity through blending.

A number of the shades are foiled and have a slightly chunkier texture, but they’re best applied with your fingertip for the smoothest application and they almost look wet when on the eyelids. My standout shades would have to be Pixie Dust, NSFW, GiGi and Shady Bitch but it’s a palette I’m thrilled to own in my collection as both a Too Faced fan and as a makeup collector. In my opinion, it’s the ultimate party makeup palette.

Too Faced Better Than Birthday Sex Mascara £19

The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is such an iconic mascara and for the Too Faced TF20 Makeup Collection, Too Faced have give their bestseller a birthday revamp which couldn’t be more fitting, and oh my gosh it’s gorgeous.

The packaging for the Better Than Sex Mascara was already pretty cute with pink, matte metallic casing but the pink metal is now covered with glitter which doesn’t transfer as it’s sealed, and it’s the prettiest packaging I’ve ever seen for a mascara – I don’t think I’ll ever want to throw away the tube even when I’ve finished as it’s so sparkly. Did you know this mascara is the bestselling prestige mascara in the whole of the US?! Any Too Faced fan needs this birthday edition of the mascara in their collection.

Too Faced Throwback Metallic Sparkle Lipsticks £18

For Too Faced’s 20th birthday they’ve reimagined their original 8 shades with a 2018 twist and a full-coverage, creamy formula for 10 new throwback sparkle shades, although I believe only 9 shades are available here in the UK; Bionic, Hoochie, Hot Flash, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Miss Thing, Pixie Stick, That Girl, Trampula and TF20. From the nine shades available from Cult Beauty, I have three of them; Too Too Hot (a metallic ruby red) Miss Thing (a shimmering golden copper-orange) and That Girl (a ruby-streaked bronze) and Too Too Hot is available from the Too Faced website.

The packaging is undeniably gorgeous with the casing being the same colour as the lipstick inside with a pretty glitter finish which again doesn’t transfer, and they look fabulous within my lipstick acrylic storage.

I have to admit I’m not really here for the metallic lip trend, but the glitter finish is so retro and it’s not a chunky obnoxious glitter which feels gritty on the lips – it looks like glitter but feels like shimmer, and they give such a multidimensional appearance to the lips. The two shades I have, have a cream formula with somewhat of a sheer finish which is buildable so you can decide how intense you want the shimmer to be.

I’d love to know if you’ve tried anything from the Too Faced TF20 Makeup Collection? What is your favourite product?
