Subscription services are big business now, and it’s not all about the beauty subscription boxes. You can pretty much find a monthly or bi-monthly subscription for anything; crafts, sweets, toys, fragrance, food, fashion and even beverages. I’ve never sampled a beverage based subscription service before but The Summerton Club really appealed to me as it’s such an unique concept which I thought would make for the perfect gift idea for those that appreciate good quality spirits. If you’re new to The Summerton Club, they describe themselves as being a craft spirits members club where they curate and deliver only the finest aged alcohol from around the world directly to your door.
The Summerton Club spirits subscription service is available in different membership options allowing you to choose how frequently you wish to receive your spirits, and you can join for yourself or purchase a subscription as a gift. To give you an idea of membership options you can opt for monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly depending on which subscription you prefer.
The Summerton Club have a ‘Bottle of the Month’ every single month and you can see all of their past bottles here including brandies, whiskies, rums and more. The Summerton Club Bottle of the Month for October is the decadent Mackmyra Gruvguld Swedish Single Malt Whisky and I know it’s going to make my other half very happy as he’s a massive whisky fan.
The Mackmyra Gruvguld Swedish Single Malt Whisky is a wonderfully smooth limited edition Swedish Single Malt Whisky that isn’t even available in the UK, which just highlights what The Summerton Club is all about in allowing us to discover brands and blends we’d never normally be able to try. The story behind the Mackmyra Gruvguld Swedish Single Malt Whisky really is interesting and I like that The Summerton Club include so much information each month for their bottle of the month feature so you can learn more about them.
The Mackmyra Gruvguld (gold from the mine) Swedish Single Malt Whisky that has been aged in small casks 50 meters below the ground in their warehouse at Bodås Mine. Its aromatic richness comes from the wide variety of cask types used to mature the whisky including Oloroso, Bourbon and Swedish Oak.
The character of the whisky is said to be oaky and spicy with notes of vanilla fudge, tobacco leaves, pear drop and sandalwood. To create the Gruvguld blend, Mackmyra assembled a team of talented people from the distillery for the ambitious task of selecting whisky from 300 casks. More than half of the whisky in each of the Mackmyra Gruvguld bottles was aged within 30 litre casks of different strength and character with the rest coming from 100 and 128 litre casks.
The Summerton Club’s October Bottle of the Month; Mackmyra Gruvguld has an alcoholic volume of 46.1% and you can find out more information about this particular blend here should you want to know more about the nose, taste and aftertaste. I know packaging doesn’t matter when it comes to spirits but the box and bottle really are beautiful, and it both feels and looks very luxurious with the golden foil dots scattered around the back of the bottle.
I think the whole The Summerton Club concept is really unique for those that are fans of discovering new and interesting spirits and I really do think their subscription options are ideal if your loved one is a nightmare to buy for like mine as he really enjoys trying different spirits.
