Kate Somerville has launched a few new products in time for the drop of temperatures and I’ve already featured the Dilo Oil here on my blog. The Dilo Oil is a really effective restorative treatment but I just didn’t love the scent but it is something I can overcome as the formula is so potent and works a treat on my super dry skin. The other new product within my skincare collection is the Kate Somerville Retinol Vita C Power Serum which is also known as +Retinol Vita C.
The Kate Somerville Retinol Vita C Power Serum is a very luxurious product at £83 for 30ml but every review I read online prior to trying it, was very positive. I’m not a skincare expert and I’m definitely more of a makeup addict than a skincare addict, but even with my very minimal skincare knowledge I know how effective retinol and vitamin C are as skincare ingredients so a product combining the two definitely piqued my interest.
“A supercharged Retinol and Vitamin C serum to help boost brightness, smooth uneven skin texture and improve the look of firmness, tone and elasticity.
Uniquely formulated with the gold standards in anti-ageing, Retinol and Vitamin C, this silky, weightless face serum acts like an incredibly rejuvenating “power nap” to refresh dull, tired skin while you sleep. Wake up to a visibly firmer, brighter and more luminously youthful-looking complexion.
- Retinol visibly improves skin firmness and texture while smoothing the look of lines and wrinkles. Retinol helps diminish the look of fine lines, wrinkles and improve the appearance of skin texture, firmness and elasticity.
- L-ascorbic acid, the purest form of Vitamin C, helps dramatically brighten and even skin tone
- Added plant extracts and antioxidants help neutralize free radicals that can cause premature ageing
- Physalis Angulata extract: an antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals that can cause premature aging“
The directions for the Kate Somerville Retinol Vita C Power Serum are very simple which I’m totally here for. I’m happy to have multiple steps within my skincare routine, but I like products that are easy to apply and layer well with my other products.
You use the serum in the evenings and just once a day by applying a thin and even layer to the face and neck. It can be used alone or layered under your chosen moisturiser but you must use sun protection when using this product as it can leave the skin sensitive to sun exposure.
The Kate Somerville Retinol Vita C Power Serum has extremely sleek and luxe packaging, with a gold metal pump that dispenses the exact amount of product I need per application so I have never have any wastage.
Kate Somerville actually recommends applying any residual product on the backs of your hands and chest as that’s where the most visible signs of sun damage and ageing tend to show up first. The serum has a really lovely sweet orange scent which I really enjoy. Some Vitamin C products have a really synthetic chemical orange scent but this serum smells like freshly cut oranges and it’s so pleasant.
I’ve tried quite a few different vitamin C based skincare products and I really don’t like how some products feel chalky and gritty on the skin, and then end up balling up as soon as I apply anything over the top. The +Retinol Vita C Power Serum feels silky and smooth like you’d expect a serum to be and once it’s been smoothed into the skin, the skin feels comfortable but matte so my moisturiser doesn’t slip around when applied over the top.
I’m really impressed with how quickly this serum lightened my acne scarring but more so how much it’s improved my dry patches. It’s such an expensive product but I love it and it’s the best vitamin C based skincare product I’ve tried, and the retinol hasn’t caused my skin any sensitivity issues either.
I’d love to know your thoughts on the Kate Somerville Retinol Vita C Power Serum?
