When it comes to ColourPop, I find it very hard to resist their new products as I love the brand so much. ColourPop have really diversified their product range over the last twelve months, but perhaps their most exciting and most eagerly awaited launch was the recent release of the ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara. ColourPop are known for their amazing yet affordable products, whilst being completely cruelty free too.
The ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara launch is exciting as there an impressive seven different shades – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a brand launch so many different colours of mascara in one go, and definitely not a drugstore brand. Coloured mascara isn’t a trend everyone will want to get onboard with, but ColourPop have got the perfect black shade if you don’t feel daring enough to sport one of the more vivid shades.
I have been waiting for ColourPop to launch a mascara for the longest time, and it was definitely worth the wait as the ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara formula is amazing. I used to wear blue mascara in my teens and I loved it, so I love how retro this collection feels but with some really modern and more unique colours such as red and yellow.
I know I have never seen a red or yellow mascara before, and you’d perhaps assume the pigmentation would be quite sheer for a coloured mascara but these colours are not for the faint hearted, they’re the boldest of bold colours which show up very brightly on the lashes in just one coat. You can build up with upto three coats without experiencing clumping issues, and the more coats you apply, the more vibrant the colour becomes even on my dark lashes.
Colourful mascara is such a love it or hate it kind of product, but because the mascara is so affordable, it’s the kind of trend everyone can try without wasting lots of money if you then discover you don’t like the coloured lash look.
The natural bristle brush reminds me of a smaller version of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara wand, with a subtle hourglass design which works very effectively at catching every lash of all lengths without smothering product all over the eyelids. If you want to see the seven shades tried on, Kathleen Lights uploaded a fab video showing each colour and you’ll see how vivid and bright the shades really are.

I’m not the most daring when it comes to eyeshadow, but I find coloured mascara so much easier to wear as you can go for neutral eyeshadow and a coloured lash for a subtle pop of colour. Equally you can apply black mascara first and allow it to fully dry, before adding a coat of one of the coloured shades just on the ends of your lashes for another more subtle way of wearing coloured mascara if you don’t fancy super vivid lashes.
My favourite shades (apart from Black on Black) would have to be Purple Prose as you know I love purple, but the Left on Red shade is insanely beautiful and really makes my green eyes pop. I tried wearing Purple Prose on my top lashline and Blue Ya Mind on my lower lashline with no eyeshadow at all and my lashes looked amazing. I feel like coloured mascara is less intimidating for a colour phobe like myself compared to eyeshadow and you could totally use these in your brows with an angled brow brush if you wanted coloured brows too.
The formula is exactly like it claims. It volumises the lashes whilst adding length and drama, without clumping and it doesn’t flake or smudge at all throughout the day. Colour me impressed, I love the ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara collection so much and I cannot recommend them enough if you’re looking for a coloured mascara, or a mascara in general with their Black on Black shade. I would love to see a ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara launched in different brown shades, and maybe even a khaki green but I’m totally here for the coloured lash trend especially as we edge towards Spring.
