Becca Backlight Priming Filter

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter has been on my wishlist for such a long time but I just wasn’t sure if it was unique enough to warrant a purchase. I love a good illuminating primer and have a number in my collection, but I didn’t know if it was going to be practically identical to the NIOD Photography Fluid.

Everyone and their dog raved about the NIOD Photography Fluid, but I felt like the only human being that didn’t like it. Both the Becca Backlight Priming Filter and NIOD Photography Fluid have very similar product descriptions and claims, but I’ve been loving everything Becca so I decided to give their cult classic a try, with everything crossed that it wasn’t super similar to the Photography Fluid.

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter is £28 for 30ml and is available to buy from Cult Beauty. Unlike other radiant priming products, the Becca Backlight Priming Filter is available in just one shade which is what gave me hope that it might work for me, especially as swatches online looked promising that although it claims to add warmth to the skin, it doesn’t impart too much colour.

The packaging is seriously luxe, with a frosted glass bottle, a bronze metal pump and matching bronze metal lid. It feels weighty and luxurious, and it’s so enjoyable to use. I know it’s not all about the packaging, but when packaging is this lovely, it can’t help but make application that little more pleasant and it looks so sleek amongst my other primers which tend to be in plastic squeezy tubes regardless of their price.

Before getting onto the physical product inside the tube, something else I wanted to add was how pleased I am with the Becca UK pricing. Usually brands charge x amount in dollars, and when it comes to the UK they just stick a £ sign in front and don’t alter it to reflect the country’s pricing. The Becca Backlight Priming Filter however is £28 in the UK and $39 in the US, so I think it’s fab that they’re not just charging £39 like many other US beauty brands would.

The primer is a luminescent beige colour when first dispensed via the pump, but the beige tone dissipates through smoothing it over the skin; something I’m very relieved by. Once it’s been evenly smoothed over the skin, there’s very little colour added to the skin, and instead it’s just a beautiful glow. On my skintone, the subtle beige tint is visible so it’s a product I need to use sparingly otherwise it does look like a tinted moisturiser on me, but when used in small amounts, the beige hue isn’t all that noticeable.

I tend to apply half a five pence piece amount for my whole face when using it as a primer before my makeup, which really is a tiny amount, but a little goes a very long way. You can however mix the Becca Backlight Priming Filter in with your foundation, or apply it over the top of your base for additional glow.

My favourite method of applying the primer is underneath my foundation as I love the blurring effect it has on my skin, and it has a really lovely almost peach scent which I love. The glow factor is so natural with no noticeable shimmer or glitter anywhere on the skin. It just looks as if you’ve just had a facial, or you’re just very healthy and that’s the kind of natural glow I like.

I don’t want to look like a disco ball, or look so shiny that it looks like I’m greasy, and for me the Becca Backlight Priming Filter is the perfect product for imparting glow whilst also blurring the surface of my skin at the same time.
