I couldn’t believe it when I saw the Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer £19.50 inside the Look Incredible Deluxe April Beauty Box, as I’ve had a couple of their deluxe sample sized tubes of the primer and I’ve always really enjoyed it. I feel like nobody ever mentions the That Gal Primer, and I had to check if it was even still sold as I’ve not seen it anywhere but it’s still on sale thankfully.
Everyone raves about the Benefit POREfessional primer but I’ve never been enamoured by it as it’s always been so drying on my skin and it never really wowed me with its blurring ability either.
I do like to sometimes use a mattifying pore blurring primer on my cheeks and nose, and an hydrating primer on the rest of my face as my skin is so dry so I do keep POREfessional in my collection but for me, That Gal is my favourite Benefit primer and I’ve tried them all; POREfessional Pearl, POREfessional Licence to Blot, POREfessional Matte Rescue, Stay Flawless and Dr. Feelgood.
“Our silky pink primer takes your complexion from dull to darling! Simply blend it on for the look of brighter, smoother skin with soothing raspberry and chamomile, and light reflecting pigments to flatter all skintones.
Feeling bummed by a blah complexion? Perk up and twist the base until the primer is distributed on the top. Apply with fingertips onto the face and blend in an even, upward motion. She’s the perfect partner to your foundation or moisturiser. Gently pat on during the day to cheer up your complexion.”
The Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer is packaged within a white plastic ‘stick’ with a twistable base that pushes the primer through a grid (shown above) and you simply use your fingertip to scoop the primer from the grid to apply the face. It has a pastel pink colour, and feels like a moisturiser in that it absorbs into the skin and leaves it feeling silky and smooth.
The pink colour is a little bit noticeable initially, but I don’t notice any of the pink tint once I’ve applied foundation over the top so I do think it has the potential to work for many skintones. It does make my skin look very dewy, but due to the pink tint I wouldn’t wear it alone as I’d worry I’d look even more pink than I usually do.
I don’t notice any blurring, or smoothing properties but it doesn’t claim to. Instead it’s more of an illuminating primer which makes my skin look brighter, and more healthy but in a natural what-have-you-done-differently kind of way.
It’s a great primer for dry skin as it does feel like a moisturiser, but my only downside is the packaging as you have absolutely no idea when you’re nearing the end as you can’t feel nor see how much is left within the stick, but apart from that I’m a big, big fan.
