I am somewhat of a germaphobe, and frequently wash my hands throughout the day which is playing havoc on my skin. I’ve had psoriasis for a number of years now, and I’ve developed a patch of psoriasis on the knuckles of my right hand which luckily isn’t my ‘swatch hand’ but I’ve been really worried it’d spread to my other hand. Psoriasis is an auto-immune condition caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking healthy skin cells. Ever since I had glandular fever last summer, my psoriasis has really been exacerbated and I’ve found a miracle cream; the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Hand Cream £5.99.
Psoriasis isn’t the most pleasant of topics to talk about I know, but it’s really surprising how many of us suffer with it. I’m extremely lucky that my psoriasis is mainly just on my scalp, as it can appear almost anywhere on the body – even the mouth. It can be really itchy but I find it to be really quite painful, and washing your hands when they’re already inflamed just makes things worse.
I’ve tried creams from my doctor, and over the counter at the pharmacy and nothing has really helped. I use a steroid based mousse for my scalp which helps considerably but until recently I’ve never found anything that would help my flared up knuckles.
I’ve tried a few Aveeno products this year after being curious about the brand and I’ve liked all that I’ve tried. I decided to purchase the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Hand Cream as the reviews were really positive especially from those with skin irritations and concerns. It’s a fragrance free formula which didn’t really appeal as I really like my scented hand creams but I think the fragrance may have been what’s caused further irritation.
“Aveeno Daily Moisturising Hand Cream with naturally active Colloidal Oatmeal moisturises for 24 hours, forming a “protective glove”, and lasts through hand washing. Absorbs quickly and leaves dry hands looking and feeling soft, smooth and healthy.”
I expected the hand cream to be thick and greasy, as many psoriasis and eczema products tend to be. However the formula really has surprised me. It’s a lightweight, white lotion which absorbs amazingly fast into the skin with no residue whatsoever. If anything it’s one of the fastest absorbing hand creams I’ve tried. It’s instantly comforting on irritated, sore skin and reduces discomfort and pain quickly.
I really wasn’t expecting much seeing as I’d tried so many products but this £6 tube of cream has almost cleared my entire psoriasis flare up completely. I can’t quite believe it and half expect to wake up with a new flare up, but the colloidal oatmeal within the formula has possibly cleared it up by 80%. I still have some dryness left but there’s now no broken skin, no pain whatsoever and it’s hardly even noticeable anymore and that’s from just one single week of using it twice a day.
Not only has it worked miracles on my psoriasis, it’s also really lovely on the hands to condition and hydrate the skin. I wish Aveeno did a larger sized bottle as I’d love to try it on my scalp as it’s been so effective on my hand, but if you have psoriasis or eczema you simply have to try this Aveeno Daily Moisturising Hand Cream as it’s amazing and I’ve already purchased two backups just incase as I never want to be without it now, it really is fantastic. Since loving this hand cream so much, I’ve bought some more Aveeno products too so I’ll be sure to feature them very soon.
