Socks might sound like a strange thing to blog about, but when I heard all about the Critically Endangered Socks, I knew it was something I wanted to blog about as they’re such an amazing initiative. I know socks are seen as a jokey cliché gift, but I think socks make a really great gift idea.
These socks really are different from your average socks, and by purchasing them you’re actually helping animals which something I definitely am onboard with. Critically Endangered Socks are a brand created by Dom Desmond, which was created after he visited Borneo and witnessed critically endangered Borneo orangutans in the wild for the first time.
The whole story behind the brand is simply amazing, and you can read it in full right here. In collaboration with an NGO called Friends of the National Parks Foundation, Dom has set up Critically Endangered Socks to use the funds from sock sales to help this NGO protect the Borneo rainforest. The idea grew into a company that would support five of the world’s most endangered species, and their amazing mission is to eventually help every critically endangered animal on the brink of survival by selling the most beautifully crafted, ethical products we can create.
Critically Endangered Socks have five different socks on sale, and each of the pairs of socks helps a different animal. There is the Borneo Orangutan, the Amur Leopard, the Maui Dolphin, the Sumatran Elephant and Hawksbill Turtle, and you can purchase the socks individually or as a pack of five.
Each of the sock designs are £12, and the five pack is £48. From the animals on offer, I decided upon the Amur Leopard as I love leopards, and I loved the colour too. When you purchase your socks, you’ll get a cute little fact card giving you information on the animal for your socks, which is such a lovely touch.
“The limited edition Amur Leopard sock, only 1,000 made. A partnership between Critically Endangered Socks X The WildCats Conservation Alliance.
Made from a soft and sustainable blend of cotton and bamboo, each pair comes with an endangered animal fact sheet in a bespoke recyclable box.
WildCats Conservation Alliance: We’re helping fund the charities Amur Leopard anti-poaching initiatives and population monitoring. Power an amur leopard motion sensor camera for a week with each pair bought.”
It’s amazing that these Critically Endangered Socks Amur Leopard Socks will fund an amur leopard motion sensor camera for a week. I love that the brand gives you a specific idea of how your money will help the animals, instead of being a more generalised donation. It’s such an incredible concept, and they are beautifully made socks too. They feel super soft, but have a nice thickness, with a cute stitched shape of the animal too.
I cannot rave about these socks or the company enough, and really hope you’ll check them out as it’s such a wonderful cause (or five!).
