The L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Mascara is such a super hyped mascara, and I’m a sucker for hype so I knew I had to try it. L’Oreal are my favourite drugstrore brand when it comes to mascara, with their Voluminous Mascara being a pretty spot on dupe for the YSL Effet Faux Cils Mascara, so whenever L’Oreal launch a new mascara, it’s pretty much a given that I have to try it.
The L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Mascara £10.99 is available in both a waterproof and a non-waterproof version, and I chose the non-waterproof version as waterproof formulas often are a little too harsh for my sensitive eyes. In the UK we just have ‘black’ shade however there is a ‘black/brown’ shade over in the US, but I personally prefer black as I need all the definition I can get for my really pathetic lashes.
“You don’t have limits, so why should your lashes? Introducing our game-changing mascara, L’Oréal Paris Unlimited Mascara, that pushes your lashes to their limits. Now every lash is volumised, lengthened and perfectly separated. Unlimited lash impact, from every angle.
It’s all thanks to the innovative brush – inspired by a makeup artist mascara hack – that bends at 2 different angles, allowing for ultra-precise application. The brush coats lashes with a creamy, non-clumpy formula which glides on perfectly to volumise, lengthen and define every last lash. Top, bottom, inner, outer, long, short… no lash is left behind!“
Bendable mascara wand for precise application
Reaches every last lash, from corner to corner
Longwear formula
Intense black finish for high-impact lashes
Lengthens, volumises, defines and separates lashes
The USP of the L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Mascara is the bendable lid which you can supposedly bend to get your optimum angle for comfortable yet effective application on both the upper and lower lashes. I personally don’t have an issue with the angle of conventional mascara wands but I did wonder whether this bendable design was actually a game changer, or a gimmick. The bristles on the wand are synthetic and rubber, and slightly taper in length towards the tip of the brush.
If you look closely at the bristles, they seem to be pointing in multiple directions and these photos were taken the day I bought the mascara, so they hadn’t been damaged with use and it was completely sealed when I bought it from Superdrug.
I found the bristles a little uncomfortable during application which I guess is down to the different angles as they felt spiky against my lash lines which again could be because my eyes are so sensitive but the longer bristles towards the base of the wand are a little less uniform than the shorter bristles towards the tip of the wand.
L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Mascara Review
Bristle issues aside, I sadly don’t love the formula which really surprised me. I have never found an L’Oreal mascara that didn’t wow me and I haven’t read a single review of the L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Mascara that wasn’t a rave review. However, on my lashes I find that it flakes off into tiny little black dots under my eyes every time I wear it.
It’s described as having a long wear formula but I notice the flaking starting within an hour of being on my lashes and the flaking happens throughout the day which is something I just can’t ignore as I don’t want to have to look in the mirror every hour to remedy the flaking issue.
I didn’t know if I should even post this review as I genuinely haven’t read that anyone else has had this issue so it could just be a one off with this particular tube. I don’t generally experience flaking as a rule, so it’s not as if it’s something that happens regularly for me.
I do find the bendable handle to be quite a gimmick, however I think it’s a really good option for those with dexterity issues in their hands but for me, it didn’t enhance application or make a difference to my lashes when bending the lid or using it with a straight lid. So I preferred to use it with a straight lid as if anything, I found that I ended up smudging more products on my lids when using the lid at the bent angle.
It’s not a mascara I’d repurchase as the flaking is a massive turn off and I didn’t find that it offered much in the way of volume or length to my lashes either. I still love L’Oreal mascaras as a whole, and I’d much rather use the Lash Paradise Mascara (or L’Oreal Paradise Extatic if you’re in the UK) instead as that gives my lashes curl, volume and length without any flaking throughout the day as well as containing castor oil to help condition the lashes.
You can purchase the L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Mascara from Superdrug or Boots for £10.99.
