Health and Wellness Trends for 2020

Whenever a new year starts, thoughts turn to everything new. New starts, new goals and new trends for everything from fashion to health. There’s always something new generating hype across social media, and it can be hard trying to keep up with everything new. A new year is always the best time to try something new, or to prioritise things in your life like your mental health, fitness or well being. I thought it would be fun to share some of the projected health and wellness trends for 2020, so you can learn about the trends you can expect to read about over the coming twelve months.

Health and Wellness Trends for 2020

Trends often appear out of nowhere, and sometimes generate buzz pretty quickly, and we often have no idea what was the catalyst for the trend in the first place. Over the last couple of years, I’ve really noticed more people being honest about their health and topics like body hair, cosmetic procedures and health in general is talked about much more than it used to. Topics which were once seen as being taboo, are no longer and it’s much more positive being able to discuss important things online.

One example of a wellness trend for 2019, was the start of many of us being more aware of the amount of time we’re spending on social media and technology devices. Apps like Instagram introduced a feature where you could see the amount of time you’d spent on the app each day, and it was definitely an eye opener for myself. It made me realise I didn’t want to waste ten hours a week for example, on a social media platform that potentially had a negative impact on my mental health anyway. Instead, I’ve been able to make a conscious decision to step away from social media more and that wouldn’t have happened without the usage monitoring technology provided by the likes of Apple, Facebook and Twitter.

Smart Watches

When fitness trackers first became popular, they could show you the amount of steps or calories you’ve done or had throughout the day. But smart wearable have come a very long way, and it’s amazing what’s on offer on the market right now. I am a big fan of smart watches, and fitness trackers myself. I had noticed my heart rate getting quicker and quicker over a period of six months but it was only a thought as I hadn’t been tracking it or checking it.

I received a smart watch as a gift, and one of the features on the smart watch was a heart rate monitor, which recorded my heart rate 24/7 including when I was asleep. I quickly noticed my heart rate recordings looked irregular and worryingly fast, and when I took my results to my doctor she swiftly referred me to a cardiologist and I’ve since been diagnosed with two different heart conditions which would have never been diagnosed had it not been for my smart watch. There are so many different smart watches to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming trying to decide which would suit your lifestyle and needs so it’d be beneficial to check for the Best Smart watches for women, to help you decide which would be the best for you.

CBD

As a blogger, I am flabbergasted by the explosion of CBD based pitch emails I receive. So many brands offering CBD based beauty and lifestyle products to try, for review on my blog. It’s definitely a trend which is going to be massive in 2020. There’s CBD everything and anything you could possibly imagine, and I’ve been offered products like CBD bath bombs, chewing gum, supplements, skincare, hair products, candles, chocolate and even nail polish.

CBD is something completely different to THC and there’s a lot of misunderstanding between the two. It’s a little complicated trying to differentiate between the two, so I’d recommend looking at the scientific properties of both so you can know more about them. CBD based products often contain cannabis sativa, but CBD is only going to become an even bigger trend this year so it’s definitely one of the biggest health and wellness trends for 2020.

Veganism

Veganism was one of the biggest food trends for 2019, but it’s set to be one of the biggest health and wellness trends for 2020 too. If you were a vegan a few years ago, you were really restricted with what you could buy as meat alternatives, but there are so many choices now with entire vegan restaurant chains popping up across the whole country. There’s now vegan choices at McDonalds, KFC and Burger King but there have been vegan innovations for products from ice-cream to convenience meals.

Air Purifiers

The air purifier is set to soar in popularity this year, with the emphasis on health being a massive trend in itself. People are going to be more aware about what they ingest in terms of food, but also the air we breathe. I had no idea that indoor air quality can be two to five times worse than what’s inside, and that’s a scary statistic. Air purifiers work to remove and destroy pollutants from the air, many of which we bring into our own homes ourselves thanks to products like cleaning products, or aerosol beauty products such as dry shampoo or deodorant.

These are just four of the health and wellness trends for 2020, and I can’t wait to see what else emerges as a trend this year.
