I love discovering new brands, and Lovegrove Essentials are a brand I tried for the first time only a couple of weeks ago. Lovegrove Essentials has been developed over the last six years by a mother and daughter team, and they offer a lovely collection of skincare and bodycare products on their website. From their product range, I knew I had to try their Lovegrove Essentials Black Pepper & Rosemary Massage Balm.
If you’d like to know more about Lovegrove Essentials, and the story behind their brand, you can read the full story here. However, the brand was created by Hannah Lovegrove and her daughter Hayley de Beers:
Hannah Lovegrove has cultivated her understanding of skin, mind and body care from her work in holistic beauty therapy, aromatherapy and Iyengar yoga over the past 40 years. She has developed a method of delivering holistic facial treatments that encompass the whole body, creating a signature facial treatment that provides a deeply restorative therapy for the whole person.
Hayley de Beers is a Make-up ‘guru’. She has worked with hundreds of women, and men, in all kinds of circumstances, listening to the issues they had with their skin and their make up, giving advice and building up their confidence. She has trained people in make-up and retail all over the UK and Europe and has extensive knowledge in the beauty, skincare and spa/salon markets.
They both recognise that self-care, general health and a sense of well-being are inseparable from lifestyle. Diet, sleep, stress and exercise can all influence a mind and body, and the speed at which cells regenerate and heal. Hannah and Hayley have created a unique and flexible skincare brand from natural and organic ingredients that harness the many therapeutic uses of plant essences and essential oils, not just for their topical benefits on the skin, but also for their effect on the mind and the body.
Lovegrove Essentials have a lovely collection of products, all of which are beautifully packaged and designed with such sweet labels and attention to detail. From their product range, I selected the Lovegrove Essentials Black Pepper & Rosemary Massage Balm as something I’d like to try as I have a chronic pain condition which gives me really sore muscles, so I like to often use massage balms and massage waxes to try to relieve some of the pain. Lovegrove Essentials have four different massage balms; Lavender & Clary Sage, Olive Oil, Black Pepper & Rosemary and also Spike Lavender, Ginger & Marjoram.

From the four balms on offer, the Black Pepper & Rosemary Massage Balm sounded like the ideal combination for my needs. The balm contains four key ingredients; Organic olive oil, coconut oil, rice bran wax and tocopherol. The Black Pepper in the balm is said to be warming and stimulating, and is great to ease muscle and joint pain, and is often used in blends for sports massage. Whilst Rosemary has many properties like healing, astringent, toning, tonic, refreshing, stimulating, deodorant, anti-septic, reactivating, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, softening, invigorating.
It has the most amazing warm but spicy scent, and it very much reminds me of the Molton Brown Black Pepper scent. If you love that Molton Brown scent, you’d absolutely love the scent of this massage balm. It is a thick balm within the glass jar, but as soon as you scoop some out and warm it between your palms, it begins to melt into an oil which glides over the skin really nicely which is perfect for massage. My other half ran a 5 mile cross country run at the weekend, used the balm in the evening and had zero pain or stiffness the next day which is some sort of miracle. It smells great, is really effective and a little goes a very little long way – I can’t recommend it enough!
