As it’s another Saturday, it means it’s time for another AliExpress product and this time it’s the O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge. I have featured O TWO O before within my AliExpress series, with the O TWO O Liquid Blusher that I loved. O TWO O have their own official store on AliExpress, but I didn’t purchase my sponge via the store as there weren’t any reviews on the listing, so I chose another store to use for placing an order.
O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge
The O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge is just £1.55 from the O TWO O Official Store, with free UK shipping. There are now over 100 reviews on the listing from the official store, but I ordered mine from the Make You Beautiful Store and I paid £1.80 including shipping. The sponge was more than £1.55 when I decided to use another store, but the prices on AliExpress are forever changing, and they’ll be different tomorrow, it’s just the way it works. I would recommend using the official store whenever making any AliExpress makeup purchases, but for a beauty sponge I didn’t mind risking another seller.
Microfibre sponges (or Microfiber if you’re in the US) became super popular following the launch of the Juno Microfiber Sponge which went viral after Nikkie Tutorials raved about it on her YouTube channel. The Juno sponges are $6 each and used to only be available via their website, but they’re US based so it meant costly shipping fees. However, BeautyBay now stock their sponges, and they’re only £4.50 each.
The Juno Sponge is described as;
“The first ever microfiber makeup sponge fuses together your favorite makeup tools: the beauty sponge and makeup brush. This ultra-soft, dual layer sponge saves you up to 50% of your makeup product and perfectly blends in EVERYTHING.“
Before trying the O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge, I’d never tried a microfiber sponge before, so I wanted to give it a try. If you don’t like the feel of velvet, you won’t like these sponges, as they have a flocked texture to them. It’s so soft though, and feels really nice on the skin. I noticed that my sponge doesn’t have the O TWO O branding engraved into the sponge, like the O TWO O sponges have, so I guess mine isn’t actually an O TWO O sponge, but ordering from their official store would mean I would have got a proper O TWO O sponge.
With a beauty sponge I’m not all that bothered about it being a fake, but I wanted to still blog about it because I think it’s the perfect example of why you do have to be careful when making purchases on AliExpress or eBay. You never know what you’re going to get unless you use the brands’ official stores. I haven’t tried a genuine O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge, so I have nothing to compare this sponge to, but it does a nice job at blending foundation.
When it’s damp, it doesn’t grow very much at all like you’d get with a BeautyBlender, but you would dampen a BeautyBlender to make it soft, and the O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge is already super soft so it’s not a deal breaker for me. For £1.80 it’s a really great sponge, but it does make me curious to see how the real O TWO O Microfibre Velvet Beauty Sponge compares, and if it is any better than this one.
