I tried the Ouai Scalp and Body Scrub after reading endless rave reviews, but in all honesty I hated it. When I saw the Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub, I thought it might be a more affordable dupe of the Ouai scrub, or perhaps be better?! The Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub is so thick and sticky, and it’s a nightmare to rinse away as the clumps of oily scrub just cling onto the hair.
I don’t even find it to do a good job at scrubbing the scalp either, and it’s really expensive too – a 250ml pot is £32 which is crazy! If you have shorter hair, and quite thin hair, you might really love the Ouai Scrub. But my hair is waist length and it’s so thick that it regularly snaps hair bobbles when I try to tie it up, and I think that’s why it just didn’t work for my hair as it just wouldn’t wash out. So I was curious to see how the Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub would compare. I’ve tried quite a lot of the Umberto Giannini haircare over the years, and I’ve never been disappointed.
Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub
“We’ve spent years embracing the wonders of exfoliation for our face and body, now it’s time to see the amazing results of a scalp exfoliation right through to the ends of your luscious new hair! Grow Scrub removes dead skin and product build-up without stripping the hair, leaving your scalp fresh, clean, stimulated and ready to grow, grow, grow.”
Part of the Grow Long Range this product contains our unique Umberto Giannini Caffeine gro-complex which contains:
- Caffeine & Black Coffee Seed Extract to stimulate circulation
- Organic Pea Sprout Extract to accelerate hair growth and prolong hair lifecycle
- Seaweed, Marine Nutrients for hair health.
What it does: Removes dead skin and product build-up without stripping the hair. Stimulates hair growth.
Who’s it for: Those who suffer with dry scalps, product build-up or want to strengthen and grow their hair.
What it is: A scalp exfoliator which unblocks hair follicles and removes build-up and accelerates hair growth.
How to use: Use once a week to unblock hair follicles and remove build-up. Massage gently into the scalp and rinse. Use instead of shampoo – it contains cleansing agents to gently detox your hair.
The Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub is £9 for 250g which is the same amount of product as the Ouai Scrub, except it’s £23 cheaper which just blows my mind. When you unscrew the pot, the scrub is the same colour as the Ouai scrub but it’s so much thinner.
The Ouai scrub is so thick that when you scoop some out of the pot, there’s a dent in the product left in the pot. When you scoop some of the Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub out of the pot, the product left in the pot levels out almost instantly like some hair masks do.
The scrub granules within this mask are actually much bigger than those in the Ouai scrub which again is something I think that makes the Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub so easy to rinse out. The larger, coarser exfoliative granules do an excellent job of scrubbing the scalp but because they’re suspended within a thinner mixture they’re easy to rinse. Plus this scrub can be used instead of a shampoo, as it cleanses the scalp which is probably why it does rinse so easily.
I didn’t buy the Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub Scalp Scrub for helping my hair to grow, if anything that’s the opposite to what I need as my hair grows ridiculously fast but as a scalp scrub I absolutely love it.
I have a really dry and irritated scalp, and using a scrub really helps to relieve some discomfort and helps keep my dry patches to a minimum. It also happens to smell lovely too, which is even better and I definitely want to buy some more Umberto Giannini products as I’ve been so impressed by this scrub.
