Maybelline launched a collection of new shades of their 24Hr Color Tattoos last year, and the Maybelline Groundbreaker 24hr Color Tattoo is just one of the newest shades they launched. I have already featured the Dusk Doll shade here on my blog back in October, and Groundbreaker is the second shade I bought.
Maybelline Groundbreaker 24hr Color Tattoo
I have to start this review by pointing out something strange. The shade is called ‘Groundbreaker’ according to the sticker on the black lid, however on the bottom of the glass jar, there’s a clear sticker with ‘Groundbraker’.
You’d think a massive, massive company like Maybelline would check for typos before launching a product across the world. Typos are easily made, but it just amuses me that a brand as big as Maybelline would make such an obvious mistake.
“Crease resistant. Fade resistant. Waterproof. Introducing our most longwearing eyeshadow yet! Color Tattoo Eyeshadow pots have super saturated payoff for up to 24 hour tattoo intensity. Seamlessly melts onto lids in one easy swipe. Waterproof formula resists fading or creasing for an all day look that you can set and forget.“
The Maybelline Groundbreaker 24hr Color Tattoo is £5.99, and Groundbreaker (or Groundbraker) is just one of the five newer shades alongside; Socialite, Front Runner, Dusk Doll, Knockout and Risk Maker. The photos on the Superdrug website are wrong, as it shows this shade as being a pretty pinky nude shade which is what I thought I was getting, but as you can see Groundbreaker is definitely not pink.
I have to say, I’m a little disappointed with the new shades. Dusk Doll is very sheer, and Groundbreaker is also very sheer. The Color Tattoos used to be known for being super pigmented, metallic eyeshadows which were comparable to the MAC Paint Pots.
The Maybelline Groundbreaker 24hr Color Tattoo is a sheer reddy toned brown shade, which doesn’t look particularly special. Nor does it impress in terms of pigmentation either, which is so unlike the original formula.
I bought Groundbreaker at the same time I bought Dusk Doll, so I didn’t know they’d be so unimpressive compared to the original line up of Color Tattoos. Had I purchased Dusk Doll first, I definitely wouldn’t have purchased another shade as there’s so many better cream eyeshadow formulas within the drugstore.
In these swatches, the first swatch is the shade unblended, and the second swatch is blended. If you blend too much, the eyeshadow becomes even sheerer and barely visible on the eyelids which is so disappointing. Yes they’re still affordable, but this new formula is nothing like the original collection and it’s such a shame as they used to be the best cream eyeshadows within the drugstore.
