Makeup Tips For Girls Who Wear Braces

Much like wearing glasses, braces can present a new challenge when it comes to makeup. Braces do important work of improving your bite and smile, but what sort of makeup is most flattering for those who need to wear them?

Makeup Tips For Girls Who Wear Braces

Choose Matte Lipstick

Your lipstick choice is up to you (although choose neutrals and nudes if you don’t want to draw too much attention to your mouth), but stick with mattes. Avoid glossy lipsticks and lipgloss. The stickier surface can catch on your braces, causing smudging, and lipstick on your braces, which nobody wants.

Remember that bright colours will draw the eye to the mouth, so if you want to keep your braces discreet, wear a nude lip. Clear braces can also help with this if you don’t want to advertise that you’re wearing braces to straighten your teeth

Some braces wearers enjoy a brighter lip, as it helps them to feel confident. If you usually love a bold pop of colour, braces are no reason to stop. Wear a bright lip with pride.

Play Up Your Eyes

If you want to draw attention away from your mouth, your best bet is to draw attention upwards to your eyes. Make sure that your eyebrows are styled and filled, and pay attention to eye makeup.

This is a great excuse to experiment with some more dramatic eye looks, like cat eyeliner, smokey eyes, or colours you wouldn’t usually wear. Be adventurous, and try something new. You can always try out a look at home to see if you like it before venturing out in it.

Lip Balm Is Your Friend

Many braces wearers find that their lips get very dry. Lipstick is never going to look good on dry lips, so make sure you’ve always got a good lip balm in your bag. If you struggle to remember to take one out with you, buy a few so you can keep one in your car, one in your desk at work, and a couple at home, so you always have one. If your lips are dry and beginning to flake, you can exfoliate to buff away the dead skin. You can do this when you wash your face, by gently buffing your lips in small circles with a flannel. You can also make your own lip scrub by mixing honey with sugar and using that to gently scrub away the dead skin. Drinking plenty of water also helps, so make sure you stay hydrated too.

Whatever makeup tricks you decide to use, wear it with confidence. Braces can be annoying to wear but remember that they are only temporary, and when you’re done with them, you’ll have a straighter smile to show for it. Misaligned teeth can spoil the look of your smile, but can also cause your teeth to wear down in the wrong way, causing damage to your teeth or the bones in your jaw. If you think your smile needs straightening, speak to your dentist for advice.
