When ELF launched their Putty Primer in 2018, it was only a matter of time before Revolution copied and created their own. The Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer is one of three putty primers Revolution offer, with one in their Makeup Obsession range, and they recently launched a hydrating version too, all of which are £8 each.
Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer
The Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer is described by Revolution as the following;
“Create the illusion of a smooth and poreless complexion with the Conceal & Fix Pore Perfecting Primer. With a formula that glides on like velvet and melts seamlessly into the skin, this balm putty primer will help to create the appearance of a smooth skin canvas whilst increasing make up longevity.“
The Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer is packaged within a clear, plastic jar with a rose gold plastic lid. You get 20 grams of product, and in the box you get a little plastic spatula to help you scoop the primer out of the jar. I’ve found it best to scoop with the spatula and apply to the back of my hand before applying to my face.
The formula is so strange for a primer, it feels like you’re scraping a candle as the putty flakes as you drag the spatula across the surface. I wish Revolution had launched their hydration formula at the same time as this one, as I definitely would have purchased the hydrating version first.
If you have oily skin, I think you’d really enjoy the Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer. It has a mattifying effect on the skin, and banishes every last drop of shine on the skin. You do need quite a lot of the primer to cover your face, so I’m not sure it’ll last as long as a conventional primer in a tube.
I like how smoothing the formula is, and you can hopefully see its smoothing effects in the photo above, but wow it’s drying on my already super dry skin. I am tempted to try the hydrating version as I like the finish, and formula but I need all of the shine I can get and I find that the Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer tends to dry up any serums or moisture I’ve applied prior to the primer.
It’s an interesting primer, and I’m planning on doing a comparison post between the Revolution Pore Perfecting Putty Primer and the ELF version, so I’ll try and get that published soon.
