Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin

If you’re currently making your list of things to buy for Christmas, and which drinks to add to your drinks cupboard this festive season, the Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin is a must-have for any gin enthusiasts. It’s incredible how massively popular gin has become in the last eighteen months. It was once seen as an old fashioned drink, but it’s definitely had quite the resurrection, and we’ve seen the introduction of many more exciting gin brands.

Gin is quite a Marmite type of spirit in that you either love it, or loathe it, but if you do love and appreciate high quality gins, Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin is an interesting gin and a lot more unique than the gins you see on the shelves in your local supermarket.

Described as ‘Dutch courage mixed with Indonesian spice’, the recipe blends a base of juniper with whole clove, cubeb pepper, cinnamon, lemongrass, rose hips, fennel and coriander.

It’s spicy and fragrant, with a burst of citrus and a bite of pepper. With the recommended garnish being a clove-studded orange slice, it’s an exotic gin that also beautifully incorporates some familiar Christmas flavours!

Bobby’s is a Dutch-Indonesian hybrid brand which celebrates the 150-year-old history of the two countries. Again, combining East and West, Bobby’s classic Dutch ‘kruik’ bottle is brought to life with an ‘Ikat’ pattern, a traditional Indonesian design.

When it comes to spirits, it’s all about the taste, but if a spirit is going to have a fancy, or luxurious looking bottle, it definitely helps, especially when thinking about gifts.

I love the Ikat pattern on the bottle of the Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin, and it really makes a statement. It has a retro vibe about it, and many gin designs are quite feminine, so it’s refreshing to see a more universal design which would appeal to both men and women.

I’m not great at describing tasting notes when it comes to drinks, but Master of Malt describe the Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin as having notes of earthy fennel and cut grass, with peppery whiffs of malt and juniper underneath. It’s a very different gin, and it would be such a great gift idea this Christmas for any gin fans that enjoy trying something a little more unique.
