Declutter The Home In Just 3 Easy Steps

Decluttering is the practice of getting rid of items you no longer want. We often don’t realise how very cluttered our homes are, until we go through the whole process of decluttering. Once you’ve started decluttering, you’ll soon realise how much unnecessary stuff we own, so I recommend having a declutter session at least twice a year, to ensure you stay on top of your ‘clutter’.

With decluttering, the main purpose is the simplification of your life, and helping you create more space both mentally, and physically in your home. By decluttering, not only will you be able to get rid of items that don’t “spark joy”, you’ll also appreciate the items you do have more too. Decluttering can help with stress and anxiety too, so there’s many benefits of having a big declutter session in your home.

The first step is tackling your home room to room, and identifying the clutter. There’s no point trying to do everything at once, as you’ll only feel overwhelmed. By doing it room to room, it’s a more manageable task, and you’ll be able to see and appreciate the progress you’re making as you go from room to room. Once you’ve identified potential clutter you’d like to remove from your home, you can then get on with the task of choosing what to do with it.

Secondly, you need to look at all the items you’ve identified as clutter and decide, am I going to keep this? Am I going to get rid of this? Clutter doesn’t mean you need to get rid of it, it just means it’s not being used in the best way, and it can be rehomed or repurposed some place else in the home.

The stuff you want to keep, you need to rehome within the home, and with doing that, depending on your location, you can utilise Now Storage self storage in Reading, to help you rehome some of the clutter you decide you do want to keep.

Lastly, you need to learn and practice good habits, to prevent clutter from coming back. The first time you have a mega declutter, it’s going to feel overwhelming, and you will wonder how you’ve accumulated so much stuff, but by learning good habits, it’ll prevent your home from being super cluttered again, and will keep your home looking its best.
