For a lot of us, buying Christmas gifts can feel like a never-ending cycle of stress and disappointment. We start each festive season with the best of intentions, leaving tabs open with potential gift ideas that serve no purpose other than to slow down our computers.
Invariably, we end up leaving things to the last minute, rushing around town trying to find something that’s just right, wrapping them in a blur of scissors and wrapping paper.
Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way; if you’re reading this, you’re ready to break that cycle, and find some truly wonderful Christmas gifts for the people you care about in 2022.
Personalised Christmas Gifts
A great way of showing that you care about someone and that you put thought and effort into their gift is by getting them a personalised gift. The online shop, Getting Personal, has a wide range of Christmas gifts that could prove an excellent source of inspiration if you’re feeling stumped.
Most of their gifts can be inscribed with a little message or their name, and they have options for everybody. Examples include wallets, children’s books, wine glasses and calendars, to name just a few.
A great way of saving a bit of money and breaking out of the commercial cycle of Christmas shopping is to make some of the gifts yourself. You don’t have to do this with all the gifts you give, but you also could if you become inspired.
Examples of handmade gifts could be candles, simple pieces of wire jewellery, or some tasty treats. There’s no such thing as giving the ‘wrong’ gift (within reason, of course) – as long as you’ve put some time and effort into it, it’ll show that you care about the recipient and that you were willing to spend time making them something.
Edible gifts (like chocolate, cheese and chutney, for example) tend to be a very safe bet. If you know the person well enough, you can get them something that you know they love to eat. Otherwise, get a safe option (an emphasis here on chocolate) and someone will end up eating it for sure.
Farmer’s markets can be a great place to find edible gifts around the Christmas period; you can likely find an option that’s nicely wrapped, which can save you further time and effort – especially if you find gift wrapping particularly challenging.
Gifts that Someone Needs or Wants
While you can read lists online with handy ideas, like this one, it’s also likely that the recipient either needs or wants something – you just need to work out what that is, and decide if it’s an appropriate gift. It might be something to do with their hobby, or a piece of clothing. You can ask their friends and family for ideas if you’re feeling particularly stumped.
Again, there’s no such thing as getting someone the wrong gift, as long as you put thought and effort into it. And the chances are, seeing as you’ve read this article, you’re doing exactly that.
