Where To Go For Year Round Sun Without Long Haul Flights

Best Months To Travel For Reliable Sunshine

In my experience, late April to early June, and September to mid October tends to hit the sweet spot for reliable sunshine.

You end up avoiding the unpredictable early spring chill, but you’re not deal with the intense peak summer heat, of school holiday crowds, regardless of the location you choose.

During these months, places around southern Europe and nearby islands usually give you warm days, plenty of blue skies and comfortable evenings where you can sit outside without reaching for a jacket.

Obviously, July and August will guarantee sun, but the prices tend to be a lot more expensive, and places are busier, making reservations a little more tricky.

If you’re looking for some winter sun, November to March can still give you bright and mild conditions in the right temperatures.

Winter Sun Getaways With Short Flight Times

Short flight winter sun destinations from the UK, US or Europe often fall within the 2 to 6 hour flight time.

Pick a winter sun break in places like the Canary Islands, Southern Spain, Southern Portugal or Malta for reliably mild weather and easy airport access. These locations are all popular for winter sun holidays for families, couple or solo travelers.

If you’re in the US, look at Florida, southern California or Mexico’s Baja and Yucatán coasts. They all offer warm days within a short flight, with lots of options for water sports, sightseeing or simple beach time.

For winter sun, choose to travel between October to March, and you’ll get to enjoy off-peak rates and smaller crowds. For the cheapest winter sun holidays, compare short-haul routes and try and book weekdays outside of holiday weeks.

Where To Find The Warmest Sea Temperatures

The warmest ocean temperatures can be found near to the equator. Obviously, because of their location, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and parts of the Indian Ocean offer the warmest ocean temperatures of above 28°C.

Whereas, the Caribbean and the beaches near Cartagena, Colombia, stay warm most of the year, and other locations like Jamaica and parts of Mexico also enjoy lovely warm sea temperatures.

The Red Sea is very popular with holidaymakers during the winter months, as it has very warm waters, and high temperatures year-round.

Depending on where you live, the flight time is relatively short, if you live in the UK, with only 5 and half hours.

During April to October, you can expect temperatures exceeding 35°C, but if you visit during November to March, the daytime temperatures average between 22 and 25°C.
